Dacrza (136), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Mar 31, 2008 An old favorite revisited...black body with brown creamy quarter-inch head that leaves a flawless lacing...roasted coffee, rich toffee, smooth and smoky accents... creamy palate--unbelievably smooth and milky...the texture is as firm as it is lacey...mellow and natural, almost perfect in its proficiency....the reason I fell in love with beer tasting, selecting from the beer menu at Russell’s in Bloomsburg nearly ten years ago....for those Strat fans out there, like finding a SUPREME defensive rating...if you only drink light lagers and the occasional green bottle, start (and end) with this one from the dark side...
Stew41 (845), Caulfield, Australia Jul 26, 2008 Wow! What a great beer. Immaculately crafted and quite full bodied (for a porter) yet only weights in at 5%. Has very nice lifted licorice and chocolate, long with a faint fruit cake and raisen note that clearly shows some RIS character. This is also evident on the nose. I love the balance right throughout. Chrism86 (17), , Australia Jul 26, 2008 Pours dark brown with hints of crimson, small/medium sized tan head. Nose is really inviting! Substantial roasted malt present with madiera cake and fruit spice. Palate is much the same, with biscuity malt taking a back seat to coffee roast and hinting fruit preserves. Finish is malty with slight earthy hop bitterness. craftycarl21 (120), USA Jul 25, 2008 black pour, only a tiny hint of light seeps through. light tan 2 finger head. aroma is fruity with malt, cherry, plum, raisin- quite sweet. The roasted barley and cane sugar are clearly evident, separates it from your typical porter flavor. Mouthfeel is disappointing- more watery than most upper level porters. Still quite nice though, really good beer. Homer321 (27), Rockledge, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 wow. this is one beautiful beer. pours a dark, slightly red, brown. very clear. little head as is true for style. slight nuttiness in the malt. defintely more malt than anything else. a very, very well done beer. SuperDave70 (652), Arizona, USA Jul 17, 2008 Black pour with red highlights and a creamy tan head that lasts. Sweet roasted malt and grain aroma. Nice and creamy on the palate. Nice sweet flavor with notes of chocolate, roasted coffee, dark fruit and malt. Very tasty!
