Large brown foamy head, quite long lasting. The body is black. Light bitter taste, long duration. Flat carbonation, a very creamy texture and a full body. A very good beer! It was a deep, deep ruby-brown, just about black, with a pretty but short-lived chocolate-colored head. It had a strong roasted, smoky, maybe even oaky, aroma. Sweet hints of coffee and chocolate bolstered the malt taste. Again, this is an outstanding porter. Slipstream (790), USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 28, 2008 I have been looking forward to this one, hopefully to again express my appreciation for Samuel Smith products. The label is not my favorite from them. This pours dark with a big, foamy roof. Aroma is malty, fruity, and piercing with noticable yeast. The taste is superb: a complex, smoky flavor that puts it in the highest rank of porters. Coffee, esters, tobacco, and malt flavors are all present. Despite the full-on, but still well-controlled flavor, the body is pretty light and the finish is pleasant and subtle, with a lingering malty aftertaste. Not too sweet, too heavy, or too harsh, Taddy Porter is another exemplary brew from Samuel Smith. emgesp (10), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 4, 2009 Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. Some lacing as the head fades away. Very nice looking beer.
There is this unique aroma that you only get from Samuel Smith’s beers. Dark fruits, and a smokey fried bacon aroma. It is a hard aroma to really pin down, but is so unique.
Strong smoke and slight peaty flavors dominate this beer. Chocolate flavors are masked by the smoke and a little dark fruits add to the complexity.
Medium body with perfect carbonation.
A very hearty beer that I would not recommend during a hot summer day. This is one to enjoy late fall and all of winter.

Pours almost reddish, but dark when in the glass...like all Sam Smiths, just really pretty....
mmm....nice taste. sugary, malty....just really fills the mouth...but then tastes cold and clean at the same time....just really great stuff....I like it! rugbydude05 (308), Kew Gardens, New York, USA

Pours a coffee color with little head and a semi-sweet aroma. Flavor has hints of coffee and chocolate and sits well on the palate. I had this one outside on a 100 degree day and it was really refreshing, despite being a more typical cold weather brew. robforbes (1114), Bremerton, Washington, USA

pours a midnight black with a ruby tint when held to the light, very large dark brown thick head, and some lacing.
smells of chocolate, charcoal, strong roasted coffee, a touch of licorice, roasted malts, some nuts, and molasses.
tastes very smooth and thick, roasted barley, bittersweet chocolate, touch of coffee, and a little bit of nuts, ends dry and bitter. Acknud (794), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA
