Still surprised at how great the Samuel Smiths are, even though they ar in clear bottles. This was exactly what I think of when I think of a porter.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown-black with red when held up to the light. There was a large tan head that was mostly diminishing and left virtually no head. The aroma was moderate roasted and chocolate malt along with some toffee. The initial flavor was moderate sweetness and light bitterness and the finish flavor was light sweetness and moderate bitterness. with an average duration. The body ws medium and felt dry up front and oildy in back with fizzy carbonation. jerrykurl (40), California, USA

Brilliant tan head. Full flavor, roasted tones, coffee, chocolate, sweet caramel finish. Runs through the mouth like candy. Overall highly complex and spot on. My favorite porter. reddragon (28), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

Smoky, almost Rauchbier-like odor, and a very robust flavor to boot. What you would expect from this highly-respectable brewery. subcell (95), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA

It is amazing, perfect on a chilly fall night. The color is dark like oil with a small head.It has a pure flavor, roasted character like in the aroma. buzz9 (15), Nashua, New Hampshire, USA
