Sam Smith has this unfortunate position in the market: if you want English beer for whatever reason, that’s the one you know, but for most people it reinforces the notion that English beer is just boring in general. A certain number of people want to have imported English beer available, and Sam Smith fills that spot, but it doesn’t inspire anyone to look for other, different English beers. So aside from the high-end specialty beer shops, no one one carries any "craft" English beer, and the vast majority of people don’t know it exists.

Almost black color with brown head. Aroma is roasted, coffee. Taste is dry, flauvour of coffee and sugar. Taste is lightly sweet with dry and bitter finish. Pretty good porter.

Bottle opens with smoke. Tan head is weak and thin. Mildly fruity aroma. Starts smooth. Finishes with just enough dry. This is the smoothest and least bitter porter I have tried, which to me is good but I see where people find Sam Smith’s a little on the weak side. Being a porter, I didn’t think I would want the whole 550 mL bottle, but did not regret opening it even though I wasn’t in a serious beer drinking mood. Some might interpret the dryness as bitterness, I did not. Weak head brings down appearance and palate.

A heavy feel beer but worth it. Slightly bitter but still smooth going down. For only 5% it had a lot more going for it than expected. Bottle.

Oscura con una buena capa de espuma compacta. Aroma torrefacto a café. Sabor tostado, café, chocolate, licor. Cuerpo medio, carbonatación baja. Final no muy amargo. Muy bebible. Hay que dejar que tome temperatura para apreciarla bien.

Cola black beer and a dark beige head. Vanilla and liquorice on the nose. Roasted flavor with a hint of sweetness, carbonation on a little crispier side, medium bodied. Quite nice texture and flavor. A little creamy. Overall a nice porter.
