Sam Smith has this unfortunate position in the market: if you want English beer for whatever reason, that’s the one you know, but for most people it reinforces the notion that English beer is just boring in general. A certain number of people want to have imported English beer available, and Sam Smith fills that spot, but it doesn’t inspire anyone to look for other, different English beers. So aside from the high-end specialty beer shops, no one one carries any "craft" English beer, and the vast majority of people don’t know it exists.

I bought this bottle at the drink of the world in Zürich and I drank it after the job yesterday at home like a dessert. In my point of view, it is a decent porter, all the things that you could expect. The body is a powerful brown and black chocolate, thin foam, average carbonation. The taste is with notes of roasted malt, coffee, hop, decent bitterness, overall well balanced and classical.

Pours black with high beige foam. Aroma is sourish sweet, kiwi, fruits, freshness, some cream, light toast, grapes, berry pie. Taste is also refreshing, very fruity, grapes, some toasted white bread, berries. Very nice beer!

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2016 Bottiglia.

Black with off white head - Good malt aroma with some note of roasted malt and caramel - Roasted malt body with some hints of caramle and coffee and gentle bitterness in the back - The roasted malt and some bitterness goes into the finish - This was good

355ml bottles once a year 2012-2015 and sampled at BHandlung 2016. - Classic porter with a natural touch of caramel roast (figs, nuts) and almost Dubbel-like yeasty esters probably coming from those open pot still aka "Yorkshire squares" pictured on the label. - Does the classic filter coffee bean + milk chocolate and some caramel very well, adding chalky minerals and a metallic mouthfeel for good measure to the otherwise "dry yet creamy" mouthfeel. - Fair touch of aroma hop goodness adding grape and wet pine notes to the mix. Benchmark in its subtlety.
