Bottle: Nearly black with some deep-ruby edges. Solid tan head mounts nicely & lasts for a bit. Nose loaded with coffee, figs, roasted malt, & a hint of underlying residual sweetness. Huge roasted barley flavor up front with hints of coffee beans. Mid-palate, a large wave of dark fruits completely takes over. Dates, figs, raisins, with a small undercurrent of bittersweet cocoa. Strange combination of sweet, tangy, & bitter. A touch of red grape, anise, roasted malt, & cacao in the finish. Kind of dry. Not bad, but I didn’t love the hefty dark fruit in the latter half.

550ml bottle. Thin, inky black porter, with an oatmeal colored head that dissipates quickly. Malty lager aroma, forward flavor of bitter that dissipates to malty flavor that had a quick finish. Low alcohol content means the flavor stays forward. Similar to a Murphys rather than a Guinness in terms of body and bitterness. Excellent porter for drinking.

Pours almost black with a thin dark ruby cast along the edges. Outstanding head volume, world class retention and lacing. Light nose of dark fruit (plum, fig), with just hints of coffee, prune and chocolate. Light medium body with a smooth texture. Above normal carbonation with a light prickly effervescence from the middle on. The flavor profile is good, with reasonable intensity, complexity and balance. It begins with a blended flavor that is tart and separates into light notes of roast and coffee and just a hint of chocolate. The middle introduces a slight sweetness underneath. As the sweetness fades, dark fruit is present.

Bottle: deep brown or toffee colored, medium head and lace. Very dense, dark roast, malty & smokey aroma. Dried fruit, coffee & cocoa. Dry with just a hint of sourness and moderate to low bitterness. Loads of smokey flavor. Rich but has a freshness. Seems slightly hollow but still has nice flavors. Malt dominates. The high CO2 helps with texture and freshness.

deep dark brown colour, medium sized beige-ish head; aroma of cocoa, some ash and dried berrie notes; taste is the same; well ballanced porter; really enjoyable

Pours a dark brown with a thin beige head that fades into a rim and leaves some lacing. Nose is of coffee, bran and raisins. Taste is of dark malts, coffee and chicoree. Never heavy. Body is medium, carbonation soft and mouthfeel just smooth. Overall a nice and classic porter!

Spora beżowa piana, średnio trwała, kożuszek pozostaje do końca degustacji, barwa ciemno brązowa z rubinowymi refleksami, wydaje się dość klarowne. W aromacie czekolada, cola, prażone ziarno, przypalony karmel i przyprawy (majernek?).

Old rating. Bottle from Old Town. Deep, rich oil black with a modest tan head. Nice aromas of coffee and roasted malts with a slight smoked quality. Taste is more of the same. Clean and dry finish with a hint of salt.

Really nice example. Pours black with some red around the edges. Aromas of malt, coffee and a campfire. Light palate. Taste the same as aroma. Very nice ale.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 12A). Bottle 35.5 cl - Batch L14219. AROMA: mild sweet roasty aroma with notes of molasses, sweet chocolate, toffee and nutty (walnuts). No fruity esters and no diacetyl. APPEARANCE: dark Brown color with ruby highlights and translucent. moderate tanned head with good retention. TASTE: moderate roasted flavour with notes of coffee, walnuts, dark chocolate and a slight pinch of toffee. medium-low to low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no hop flavours, esters nor diacetyl. PALATE: medium-light body with moderately low carbonation. OVERALL: a very good example of what a brown porter should be. highly recommended.
