yesyouam (369), Fairport, New York, USA Jun 12, 2008 Samuel Smith’s Taddy Porter is a black ale with red overtones. The head is huge and fluffy, has excellent retention and leaves great lacing on the glass. The aroma is slightly sweet-- a bit like burnt toffee. It is pretty full bodied and soft on the tongue. The flavor is strong, well balanced and complex. There are notes of toffee, leather, roasted malt and peat. It is very English and tastes like a dimly lit pub. It’s an excellent porter that I would never confuse with any other.
SoberCajun (31), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Oct 8, 2008 Aromas of malt and mocha, pours pretty dark brown, quickly dissipating head, but decent lacing. Flavors: roasty, toasted vanilla notes, some coffee. Pretty dry, drinks smooth. Not quite as full in body as I’d like for this style. glennmastrange (413), hobe sound, Florida, USA Oct 8, 2008 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, toasted, dark chocolate and strong coffee, light notes of resin and earth for the hops and yeast, with brown sugar, vanilla and cola in the background. Head is frothy, off-white to light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is lightly acidic, moderately bitter and a touch sour. Palate is just about perfect, being medium bodied, oily in texture and has a soft carbonation. It finishes lightly dry. A great after dinner drink with an awesome mouthfeel. nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown/almost black with a two finger tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee and maybe some alcohol. Flavor was roasty with nuts and bitter chocolate. Good beer. Needs a heavier body though. bconley (40), Fern Park, Florida, USA Oct 6, 2008 Taddy Porter was good. This one smells of chocolate and nice toffee. Very dark in color. I like the roasty quality in the taste. smjohnst (161), , Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 This was a really good porter. It actually had a very alcohol type aroma to it but it did not drink that way. It was sweet and smooth.
