A dark brown porter which is quite nearly opaque in color but shows ruby highlights when held up to any nearby light source that’s emitting light presently. A deep tan head that is dense and fades slowly to a thick ring around the edge of the beer. A subtle trace of wispy foam lingers at center. Intense malty aroma hits you as soon as you open the bottle and is naturally more pronounced in the glass. A complex taste with many differnt flavors coming through. Sweet toffee malt is up front with a nice roasted malt flavor brings up the rear. Hints of black coffee and espresso come through with some sutle cocoa too. This is a smooth and lighter bodied beer with great flavor. I gave this a 5 drinkability-wise because it simply is a great drinking beer. You couldn’t really ask for a better porter.

Pours dark brown with a tan head that leaves a little bit of lacing. The nose is of caramel and molasses and not much else. Full-bodied, yet easy to drink with a really dry finish. Feels a bit over carbonated but this I got used to quickly. The taste starts a bit sweet but ends very dry. Not much bitterness going on. Definitely one of the more interesting porters out there and I liked it better than Founder’s Porter actually.

Molasses/brown sugar sweet, and caramel malt, and a stone fruit aroma and flavor. Also some cocoa and biscuit malt flavor--giving it some dryness, then finishing sweeter.

Bottle from a Total Wine. Pours dark reddish brown with small tan head. Aroma is breast with faint chocolate. Taste is rather pedestrian with a slight burnt finish. Mouthfeel is watery. Overall pretty disappointing.

0.55 bottle. Pitch black color and a small, brownish head. Aroma of dark malts, some toast, and a touch of licorice. Taste is rather delicate for a porter. mostly malty with loads of bread, some dough, and chocolate. Medium body, creamy texture, and soft carbonation. Finish closely follows the taste and does not introduce any new smacks. Overall the beer is pretty good; as a side note - drinking it alongside the same brewery’s splendid imperial stout might have influenced the rating.

Pours a light brown color almost clear, with tan head. Cocoa and coffee on the nose; follows onto the palate. Not much else. Somewhat lacking in the dimensions.

Bottle. Pours dark red to brown in the light, and the head almost completely fades. Smells of coffee with hints of chocolate. Taste is good but it’s slightly more carbonated than I would have liked.
