oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours nice dark copper with good sized head. Aroma is caramel malt, and raisin dark fruit with lots of spice. Flavor is a little on the light side- lots of dark sweet malt with decent hop bitterness. Palate is smooth and has decent body. Nice one. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Nov 20, 2008 Vintage 2008. Large bottle. Pours thinnish medium lasting head, over a pale brown, clear body....."English" type nose with mild hops and malts....tastes of understated malts, leading to appropriately mild hops. Rather understated overall but good balance. LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Nov 19, 2008 Just didn’t do it for me, as far as rocking as a winter warmer. A very nice offering if it were any other time of year, as it was full bodied and full flavored. Definitely smelled English, but was more hopped than the usual Sam Smith offerings. MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Pour is an orangish amber with a medium sudsy head. Aromas of spice (cinnamon ?), honey, light fruit (apples ?) and just a hint of caramel from the malt. Flavor is decidedly sweet… caramel/apple malt sweetness and fruitiness is nice, and there is a touch of spice to keep it interesting, but finish is kind of flat as it fades into an apple juice concentrate finale.
BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Nov 18, 2008 2008 Bottle. Pours with a lightly off-white creamy but small heead. Clear penny colored body. Good lacing. Hardly any aroma. A bit of alcohol, cinnamon and malt. All very faint. Taste is astringently malty and biscuty. Overall bland and not appealing. Lightly fizzy. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Nov 17, 2008 clear gold, moderate white head, touch of lacing. nose is airy, musty malt. flavor is malty sweetness, with an off-putting hoppy bitterness (strange, since i love hops). medium bodied, sweet finish. a mild beer that is mildly off-putting. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle from Whole Foods in Atlanta. Pours amber with a smallish white head. Aroma is malty, graham crackers, honey wheat bread and some fruitiness. Flavor is fruity and has that distinctive Sam Smiths malt profile. Good hops too. NIce beer. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 1, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of doughy/cookie malt, light fruits. Flavor has some tartness to go along with malty sweetness, the light fruits (apple, pear, slight citrus), and finishes on its strongest bitter note. Pretty basic, but filtered, pasteurised, seaweed and all, I found it quite tasty.
