esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Mar 16, 2008 12oz bottle. Red amber, very small head which is gone in a hurry. Mild spice… full palate, somewhat dry. Fizzy in the mouth with a mild bitter finish, I think there’s some apple in there too. It’s the first beer I can remember with this type of fizz, definitely interesting though not great. travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 15, 2008 Amber in color with a decent head. Sweet and malty in the aroma. Both of those extend into the taste. I like the label, but not the clear bottle. Pretty decent. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Mar 14, 2008 Bottle. Tan with nice creamy white head. Sweet malty aroma, sweet malty taste. Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Mar 12, 2008 Malty aroma, light fruit. Beautiful light amber color, little head poor retention. Well balanced flavor, nothing prominent just nice caramel and nut notes with just a bit of spice. Nice mouthfeel, seems to be a S.S. trait. overall very enjoyable. Nothing special just a well made beer. Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Mar 11, 2008 hazy, golden brown, off-white head
noticeably malty nose with a a scrap of fruit,
spicy and malty flavor
not really a fan of the artificial carbonation
but tasty nonetheless thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Mar 10, 2008 Pours a light brown color with a noticeable white head. Aroma is mostly malt with slight fruit notes detectable as well. Taste is a mix of malt with lemon and coriander notes detected as well. Very thin body for a winter ale - not bad, but not great. TheBeerBaron (218), Florida, USA Mar 1, 2008 Clear light brown color, white head, no carbonation seen in the glass. Buttery malt aroma iwth a mix of orange and grape added for good measure - the smell is very appealing. Heavy malt flavor followed by a lemon bitterniess. The lemon mixes with the mild hops of the beer but its still a little sweet and flat. Light and mild palate makes for easy drinking. A Sam Smith similar to on of their finest - Nut Brown Ale but falls a bit short. dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Mar 1, 2008 ’07/’08 bottle... beautiful color, clear amber. thin head, but it lasts. Aroma is a malty mix of spices and caramel. Flavor is a mild Christmas spiciness, with a slight metallic tang. The hops only show up on the end. The hop finish is something I really can’t recall on prior Winter Welcomes... It has the Sam Smith character that most of the beers have... can’t really put my finger on it, but it must come from the stone fermentation.
