(Bottled) Clear, darkish amber with a small, but lasting head. Fruity, sweetish-toffee-malty aroma with slight graininess and some hops. Grainy-malty, sweetish flavor with fruity strawberry, and a warming, but not disturbing alcohol feel. Medium-bodied, soft-carbonated palate. A quite nice winter warmer with lots of fresh fruit. Nothing that special flavorwise, though.

Copper pour with good head and lacing. Aroma is malty and some fruit. Flavor is mostly roasted malt, a bit plain and watery mouth.

Bottle.Clear, copper body with a quite nice, beige head on top. The nose is quite sugary and malty, with some dried fruits, and a little fruity hoppiness. And I almost forgot the caramel. The beer should have a fuller mouthfeel I think, as it is a winter seasonal, but it’s far from being watery. There are roasted flavors, as well as notes of dried fruits, a nice crisp bitterness and a wee metallic touch. Quite sweet too. There is a little warming feeling towards the end, and it finishes with some sweetness, bitterness and that little metallic touch. The beer is quite nice, fortunately not in those clear bottles Samuel Adams seems to love, and I’m quite sure it is more suited as a food pairing than as a night cap. (071019)

550ml bottle at Blå Rock Cafe. The first snow and frost for the season have already paid a visit to the high north. In Tromsø the days are rapidly getting shorter and colder. So it seems just appropriate to chose a winter warmer among the new arrivals at the cafe last Friday eve.
Cool bottle design supported by a deep amber brown body under an off-white foam with long duration and leaving fragile lacing on the glass. Very nice, indeed. Light aroma of sweet malt with some spiciness. Malty profile with a moderate touch of candy sweetness. Hops, a note of dark fruits and salt prevent the beer from getting too sweet. Slightly bitter finish with noticeable warmth from the alcohol. I’m glad our local cafe will provide us with a few more bottles during the long and dark winter season up north (12.10.2007).
