lowg (123), Scarborough, Ontario, Canada Dec 22, 2006 2006/2007 edition. Pours dark copper/amber with thick, off white head. Aroma is more spicy than anything else. Flavour is spicy also but well rounded overall. Some hops in the finish too though I found it a tad watery. A pretty good holiday beer. kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Dec 22, 2006 Amber pour with thick lasting tan head. Aroma of ginger and brown sugar. Taste of hops and caramel with a cinnamon aftertaste. Full finish. Above average winter beer. bdjames29 (272), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 20, 2006 Bottle. Not what I was expecting or, for that matter, wanting. Upon crakcing the cap I was struck with an odor of skunk. Unfortunately, with this brew you have to really work on defining the characteristics becasue the skunk overpowers the good characteristics. Pass. Sammy bombs again. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Dec 20, 2006 550 mL bottle. Chestnut brown with medium head, which doesn’t last. Most prominent aroma is that of brown sugar, with an underlying touch of green apple. Taste is dominated by the brown sugar sweetness as well, but hops do make themselves known in the finish. Thick, gritty mouthfeel. Lightly carbonated. Too sweet for regular consumption, but nice for an evening sip. ux04 (30), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Dec 20, 2006 Very fitting for the winter months. Poured from a bottle; nice head and aroma. All around a sweet beer that pleases to the end of your glass. Keeps you nice and warm too. mreusch (715), Olathe, Kansas, USA Dec 19, 2006 Bottle; pours a clear copper with an off-white head that slowly dissipates; very slight lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, molasses. More sweetness on the taste; caramel, molasses, fairly malty with some spice on the lingering finish, no hops to speak of. Not a bad winter ale. brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 19, 2006 (bottle) Crystal clear copper with medium, off-white head with rocky peaks. A subtle aroma of sweet malt and floral hops. Flavor is sweet up front, but giving way to a mild hoppiness. Light-medium body with some carbonation. HazelRah (276), Summerland, British Columbia, Canada Dec 19, 2006 Clear bottle. Pours a somewhat flat looking copper colour; has a thick look to it. Aroma of coffee, diacetyl, skunk and caramellized sugar. Strong caramel flavour with molasses, skunk and earthy hops. Maybe this is better closer to its point of origin.
