Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Jan 16, 2009 Aroma is malty with an undertone of spice - mainly cloves - and a hint of yeast. It pours a light coppery golden-red with a thick off-white head. Lively, malty flavor has a strong undertone of spice and hints of yeast, caramel and honey. Texture is crisp and syrupy smooth. Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Jan 14, 2009 A clear amber colored beer, with thick and little beige head. The aroma of caramel malts with lot of fresh fruits. Some bread and yeast. The taste of some hops, a little bitter. It is a little dry and very fruity with flowers. Some nuty in the back. The aftertaste is a little bitter for quit a while. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jan 14, 2009 found this at the liquor store on post Clear amber with a thin head. Mild sweet malt notes in both aroma and flavour. Fairly well balanced, but was not impressed with the finish. Really had two stages: 1. mild bitterness 2. failry metallic-like on the back of the teeth which was unpleasant. Strange...not impressed Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours an off-white head that fades but laces. Body color is amber. Smells of caramel and bread. Tastes of yeast, caramel, a bit sour, and light bitter finish. Decent mouthfeel. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Jan 13, 2009 550 ml bottle. Pours a deep amber hue with a 1/2" white head. Nose is malty with a caramel undertone. Nice smooth palate with a moderate body. Flavor is on the sweet side with some caramel shining through. More of a Scotch Ale in taste. Quite enjoyable as everything that I’ve had from Sam Smith has been. SinnerTim (1), , California, USA does not count Jan 12, 2009 I enjoy most of samuel smith’s beers, but the first time I had this, it blew me away. Every year I get it. And it still is consistently, one of my favorite beers TheGent (143), , Massachusetts, USA Jan 12, 2009 SS makes standard beer. silky amber pour with medium bubbly head. yeasty smell but a light body and dry finish. Nothing really made this seem any more fit for winter than most of Sam’s other offerings. bw1982 (70), , Florida, USA Jan 12, 2009 Bottle pour. Deep amber color, smallish white head, which did stick around rather well considereing how small it was. The aromas are mainly bread and malt. The flavor is deep and a little on the sweet side. Very smooth and silky on the palate. I definitely enjoyed drinking this beer, as I do with most of teh Samuel Smith offerings.
