Aroma had a little more hoppiness than I was expecting. Taste is balanced nicely between hops and malt. Taste had some spices that I picked out of cinnamon, pepper and tarragon and sweet candi sugars. Just a bit too sweet. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2003 Pretty much the same to me every year and I’ve had it since the early ’90’s. Nothing overwhelming. Decent head. Brown in color but not as dark as the Nut Brown Ale. Standard English ale aroma to it. Some bitterness and nuttiness to it. Definite malt but not overloaded. Not sensing the floral-ness mentioned. Definitely worth drinking. The label changes every year for you enthusiasts out there. RichardGretton (3166), Leicestershire, England

Note some caramel notes in the aroma, decent mouthfeel, excellent subtle bitterness would make this a good session ale - despite the 6% ABV Original 3.9 Fresh malty aroma with a hint of spice, thin head. Nice, tea-colored appearance. Good full-bodied malty flavor, goes down smooth - perfect for the winter. hughie (3090), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2006 Amber with a small off-white head. Dreadfully fizzy. After the first sip I left it for an hour and found it much better. A little metal in the aroma as well as malt. It didn’t tempt me. The flavour proved much better: sweet caramel with a hint of alcohol and a medium bitter finish. Good winter beer. GeneralGao (3081), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 9, 2007 12 oz bottle. Clear copper-orange color with thin off white head that left some lace on the glass. Dried fruits like cherry and raisin temp the nose along with light brown sugar and a bit of spiced rum. Flavor is similar with the additon of some biscuity malt.
