3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
550 mL bottle of 2012-2013 vintage. Pours a clear amber color with a medium beige head with a fair amount of retention and lacing. Aroma is pretty mild and almost non-existent--some spices and hops come through. The beer is pretty sweet upfront; detected some caramel malts and some spicy. The finish has some mild hoppy bitterness--not very watery on the plus size. The beer is refreshing but there’s nothing really exciting about it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From bottle. Fizzy clear pale amber color. Aroma is grape juice, caramel, and sweet malt. Taste is grape and apple juices, sweet corn and malt, and light bitterness. A little light-bodied for a winter ale.

I really enjoyed this beer. Light ale that goes down smooth and had a slight bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours tawny brown with a near solid sheet of fine whites. Vanilla, tea, nougat, some almond and sweet malts come through the nose. Tastes fairly simple and subtle. A good malty beverage with some fruity notes from the english yeast, some sweetened plum and bread flavors. Medium bodied with low carb and an overal silkiness I get in most sam smith beers. A nice enough drinking beer, but not likely going to get it again. Reminds me of a thickened kristalweizen.

Very mellow compared to American offerings of winter seasonals, but I like it. Easy, mellow and enjoyable.

550ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear reddish amber with a small beige head. Nose is earthy vegetables and caramel. A bit of grass and bread. Taste is sweet malts with very little bitterness and an abrupt finish. Medium slick body with soft carbonation. Pleasant enough but nothing to rave about.
