COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned only. Previously 8.0%.
Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

Poured 550 ml into a pint glass. it had barnyard aroma with delicate hints of goat feed. It had a rich amber color with a llite carbonation. With carmel and currant favors. Very little oak favors, lots of floaters. Younger barrels might make this a awesome beer.

Tasted on 1/26/12 from a 550mL bottle purchased at Binny’s Lincoln Park. Pours clear, but dark auburn, with an average tan head that slowly recedes to a thick collar of lace. The nose is lightly spiced caramel, with some hints of cinnamon, vanilla, golden raisin, and maple. The flavor is pretty sweet with maple, caramel, and vanilla up front, moving to the cinnamon and baking spices, with just a hint of some bitterness and the golden raisin showing an almost vinous note. The body is full with lively carbonation and a long, lightly bitter, vinous golden raisin finish.

Been looking forward to this beer for a long time now and it didn’t disappoint. Aromas of malt, hay. Tastes of super malty, vanilla. Overall a great beer.

Bottle: Brown color, light beige head. Aroma is fruity, notes of cherries, berries and plums. Chocolate and malt. Flavor is medium malty, quite fruity (plums), roasted malt, oak barrles, alcohol, dark chocolate, cacao. Roasty and light hoppy bitterness in the end. Nice.

Bottle care of Chuwy. Slightly oxidized aroma, green apples, caramel. Big green apples in the mouth, too big, with caramel and minerals. Smooth and silky, but disappointing as I was expecting a lot.

Bottle
Appearance - Deep cherry red, bubbly, thick head
Aromas - Oak, earthy, hops, caramel
Taste - Dried citrus, cherries, toffee, alcohol

2009 "vintage bottle". This may be my first oak-aged English strong ale. The oak presence was nice and pleasant, adding a nice and dry undertone to the fruity presence. While aromas were spicy and full of mellow earthy tones - the flavor was still much more fruity then I would expect. This made for a smooth and mellow aftertaste, which was very nice given the higher ABV.

amber red color. Wet cardbord, creamy, green apples. I don’t think the bottle I had was in the best condition.

A clear dark red/brown colored beer, with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of dark fruits with a little wood notes and dark malts. The taste is of bitter fruits with laurel. There are hints of wood, some sweet notes. A little burny. The aftertaste is sweet, bitter with a little alcohol.
