COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned only. Previously 8.0%.
Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

From 22osish bottle to shaker. Pour is a deep copper with a thick white head. Nose is big malt, dark fruits, earthy. Taste is slight sour, medium bodied with a touch of sweetness. Finishes very crisp. Sam Smith has yet to disappoint.

Pours two fingers of head on a cloudy dark straw body. The aroma is dark grains, oak and a little candy. The taste is earthy, dirt, and dark fruits. Mild sweetness. The texture is medium. Interesting.

Bottle at the Cads 10th Anniversary bash, 29/03/15. Hazed orange amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is rich fruit, spice, raisens, malt, fruit cake mix. Taste comprises spiec, toffee, rich fruit loaf, dates, mince meat, toffee. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent strong, plenty of depth in this number.

Bottle from a deli in Northallerton. Pours amber with a frothy cream head that fades quite quickly. The taste is quite sharp, sour citrus with orange notes especially. Some cough medicine notes along with noticable booze. A little oak in the finish. A interesting beer that wasn’t quite what i was expecting.

Bottle shared at The Cad’s 10 Year Ratebeer Anniversary. Clear chestnut brown, thin Borge head. Nose is fruity, medicinal, Vimto, sweet, tangy, strong alcoholic ale. Taste is Orange, Grand Marnier, fruity, tangy, malty, alcoholic.

Bottle shared at the Cad’s Shindig. Bottled in 2011, BB June 2014, 9%. Hazy red brown, still, small ring of tan head. Aroma is toffee, some minty pine, raisin. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is bready, caramel and toffee, dry and oaky, dark dried fruits, light bitterness.

ALLOVATE (2540) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 1, 2015
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Mildly hazy, it settles and auburn chestnut with moderate effervescence and a fuelled, but not efficiently lofted off white crown. Aroma is tart, plump with dark stonefruit and underripe berries, Merlot grapes, musk candy and fruity, cheap perfume. Vinous and plump yet light in body like a good red. Tight and tart with plenty of dark stonefruit coming through - plummy and raw. Nice length of fruit; sherryish and deliciously aged. Oxidised to be quite vinous but the alcohol is hellishly masked. This is an old ale that is approachable, tempting and likeable. Not complex, but pretty sumptuous! (55cL, BBE 06/15, 8.0% ABV, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Pours hazy brown with a large head. Nose shows honey, cardboard, prunes, sultanas. Sweet and rich flavours, vanilla oak, malt, sultanas, caramel. Dries out in the finish creating a slightly abrasive contrast to the initial flavours.

The Top 50
