COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned only. Previously 8.0%.
Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

500ml bottle. Poured a slightly cloudy dark amber color with a small. Dark fruits, sweet malts, can really feel the alcohol in this one. Flavor is sweet malts, some light roasted notes, dark and dried fruits. Alcohol is extremely noticeable here. Not exactly my thing, though it could have been my attempt at doing all 500ml myself. Had it been a 12oz bottle, things may have turned out differently.

From 22osish bottle to shaker. Pour is a deep copper with a thick white head. Nose is big malt, dark fruits, earthy. Taste is slight sour, medium bodied with a touch of sweetness. Finishes very crisp. Sam Smith has yet to disappoint.

Enjoyed this beer. Haven't had any Sam Smith offerings in a while, but after drinking this it reminded me how good their beers really are. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow, what a huge disappointment. I love all of Sam Smiths other offerings and had waited years to finally try this one. Take a bottle of Old Speckled Hen and drop half a shot of Jim Beam into it and that’s what this beer is. What a mess. One of the only $15 beers I’ve ever poured out.

Bottle. Pours amber, nice white head. Nose is berry, metallic hops, caramel, some paper. Flavour has caramel with some dark fruit, a bit papery but I guess oxidization doesn’t really hurt this style of beer as it does others... better than greenness. Yeah, fine, the metallic hops here weren’t as apparent as in their pale ale.

Pours a cloudy honey-amber color with a an large light tan head. Some tart fig in the nose. A bit of a harsh assault on the palate. Some creamy toffee underlies tart fig. Faint, very faint notes of oak on the back end. Addendum: this beer really needs to settle and warm a bit. It becomes much less lively and the oak comes through some more.

Opaque copper colored body w/ creamy tan head. Caramel, oak, fruit & bread aromas. Toffee, raisin, fruit & biscuity malt flavors. Excellent.

Lagerboy (1073) - British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 27, 2014
550 ml bottle. Unclear medium-dark copper, big tan foam settles and rings out. Sweet vanilla boozy malty aroma. Sweet and rich medium roast malt taste, vanilla/toffee/caramel/treacle, dark fruits, oaky whisky. Softer than average carbonation, medium-full bodied, low hopped. Becomes a bit vinous, long and strong boozy finish, what an Imperial I&G original might taste like. DNFL (Definitely Not For Lagerboys)

A lot of British beer character: bread, caramel, toffee, butterscotch. Just a little bit of dark fruit. Not much hop character. Overly sweet, and not really my style of beer.

Poured into a pint glass. appearance is dark brown, slightly amber, with a large, lasting, fluffy white head. Aromas of brown bread, almonds, honey glaze, hints of dark fruits, cherries, fruit cake. Taste is fruit cake again, cherry brandy, marzipan and almond, rum and raisin ice cream, a bit of treacle toffee. Nice smooth blend of flavours, and you only notice the alcohol in the finish. Medium bodied. Really quite tasty and delicious.
