COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned only. Previously 8.0%.
Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.

Pour is amber and clear with a thin and small off white head...smell is toasty and sweet with some booze and strong oak notes...taste is sweet with prunes and raisins up front with strong woody flavors too...twinge of bitterness and moderate heat from booze...well done and enjoyable.

Wood, pipe tobacco, raisins, and molasses in the aroma. Sweet, bready flavor with caramel, raisins, and dark fruit. Some coffee/chocolate bitterness and alcohol in the finish. Tremendous.

Bottle pour. Dark copper brown with a large creamy tan head. Raisin, toast, nuts, and dark fruits. Thick full body. Alcohol is well hidden, with a malt based taste and a strong dark fruit finish.

This beer really marks the start of the Holiday Season. It has a perfect balance between aroma, taste palate and appearance. The first sip reminds you of a mix between a candy cane, a well aged merlot and a plum. The sweetness of the balance is unbelievable. The alcohol is also very well hidden. The palate takes like a perfect fruit cake. A damn near perfect brew.

Pint bottle to a snifter. Hazy copper with off white head and lacing. Aroma is toasted bread, dark fruit, spice and toffee with a bit of funk. Complex flavors feature tart acidity, fruit and spice... Bittersweet warm finish... Very nice.

Chocolate and raisin aroma. Pours with a cloudy deep copper colour with a thick pale yellow head. Chocolate and rich fruit flavours. The texture is very rich and luxurious. Brown sugar and bitter notes in the finish. Fantastic.

Great brewery. Not my favorite of all the beers they brew. Aged in oak ale casks matured for over a year.

500ml bottle served in a snifter chalice. Brewed in 2012. Best before 2015. 8% ABV marked in the bottle. A: Pours a clear dark amber color forming a big, solid, thin bubbled beige head. Good retention and some few spotty lacings left in the glass. A thin layer remains for long time on the top S: Sweet, malty and fruity. Strong notes of toffee, caramel malts and oak. Strong notes of grapes and dry dark fruits too. Remarkable bubblegum in the nose. Strong British character. A bit of alcohol can be felt in the very end T: Sweet upfront. Strong notes of toffee, candy sugar, caramel malts, oak, brown sugar, grapes, raisins, brown bread and tutti-fruit bubblegum. In overall, a slightly sweet taste M: Medium body. A bit molasses. Medium to low carbonation. Sweet malts and wood in the aftertaste O: Good drinkability. Another British masterpiece from Samuel Smith [ BA Review @ 10/24/2013 ]

"this one came with some hype. i’d never heard of it and likely wouldn’t have bought one for a long while, especialy at $11, but a friend noticed this beer appearing on many best of 2010 lists including DRAFT mag, so... smells fruity, malty, oaky...a little alcohol, fruity almost like a belgian. ruddy dark ale. you can taste the abv, which i’m accustomed to not noticing at 8%, but the warming afterglow is quite nice. overall, very tasty - raisins, wood, toffee, no real hop presence. lastinf sweet aftertaste. a little oversweet, which prevents it from being elite, but it is quite good, and with one whiff, you can tell it’s a sam smith beer."
