Commercial Description:
This robust porter was brewed as a Pro/Am submission to GABF in 2009 by San Diego Brewing Company and local home brewer Paul Sangster. The base beer is a robust porter with subtle chocolate and dark fruit notes with a dry slightly roasty finish. The base beer was aged in Heaven Hill #4 bourbon barrels for several month before serving. This beer was originally served at Stone’s Bistro and anniversary festival and some bottled for GABF. Another batch is in progress for a future San Diego festival and brewpub consumption.

First rating of this beer. Sick! Tap at Stone. They force-carbonated the bejeezus out of this and so it had to be swirled for about five minutes continuously to get it smooth again. Nose is sweet charcoal, wood and tart caramel malt. Color is a great gray-brown with a solid tan head. Flavor was the crown jewel: milk chocolate, honey, roasted coffee, nougat, and a lighter buttery tannin of Gonzo or Deck 07. Vanilla ties it all together and the bourbon remained in the background. Really was exquisite.
