badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Jul 1, 2007 On tap at SDBC. Dark brown with creamy light tan head. Sweet chocolate and grainy aroma. Creamy mouth feel, but slightly watery palate. Chocolate roasty taste with a sweet molasses syrup taste to the finish. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Sep 21, 2006 Nitro, San Diego Brewing. Black in color with a thick nitro head. Sweet and malty aroma with a little bit of sour cream. Pretty sweet. Roasted maltiness. A little bit of a burnt finish. Pretty tasty. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Dec 4, 2005 I had this on draft at Pizza Port’s strong ale fest in carlsbad. A nice stout with candy on the nose and mouth and burnt sugar notes set against smoke and molasses. Not bad. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jun 26, 2005 Draft at SDBC. Poured dark dark brown with a decent head. Lacing was pretty nice too. Aromas of coffee and nuts. Flavors were more complex. Chocloate, more coffee, roasted nuttiness, and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Not too bad. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Apr 5, 2005 Tap. Difficult aroma--minty with some choco-malts. Slight roastiness. Very faint aroma. Mildly hazy mahogany color with a light tan head and a thin appearance. Slight sweetness, a little chocolate roastiness. Finishes thin and slightly roasty. Bleh. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Jun 14, 2004 This stout pours with a dark brown body with red tinting topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet yet bitter and very roasty with an odd woody note. The flavor is very similar with less roasty notes. Not to good of a stout. Full bodied, smooth and a touch dry. herbjones (742), Orange, California, USA Oct 30, 2003 Sampled Pizza Port Real Ale Festival 2003. Black pour with a good chocolate chip cookie colored head. Huge nose redolent of dark and milk chocolate. Unfortunately the flavor didn't match up to the nose. Very sour lactic finish threw everything off in this one.
ಠַಠ (1375), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 4, 2002 Didn’t like this. Watery, and the oatmeal-coffee taste was roasted almost to the point of being burned. Looked exactly like the nut brown.
