Bottle from Systembolaget. Crystal clear, bright yellow. Mostely lasting, snowy white bubble head. Very weak aroma. A metal note, and a faint whiff of beakfast cereals. Light-bodied. Slick to watery mouthfeel. Not very flavorfull. Corn, flour and hint of honey. Barely any bitterness. Not to buy again.

Mediterranean watery lager that quenches your thirst on hot summer days. Other than that it is quite mediocre.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2014 Happy 2014! For my first beer review of the new year, I’m doing a flashback to one of my first international beers, San Miguel 1516, which I enjoyed on a spring break vacation to Spain a few years back. This was an exceptionally flavorful golden pale lager, relatively strong malty flavors and some sweetness (brewed with all malt in accordance with the 1516 German purity law, hence the name). Also a solid pilsnerish bitterness. In fact, first drinking straight out of the bottle, I originally mistook this beer for an amber lager judging by the dark packaging and the heavier flavor. As a relative beer novice at the time I was rather impressed with this beer; having since considerably expanded my horizons, I realized this really wasn’t in the same league as other quality beers. Nonetheless, I have fond memories of imbibing 1516 while relaxing on a balcony overlooking a quaint courtyard on a sunny Spanish afternoon in Sevilla. Having since returned to Spain, I still find this to be an acceptable industrial lager for casual consumption.
