COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cerveza Negra has roasted malty notes which extends to its taste. It is full-flavored and full bodied. Bitterness is moderate but still smooth.

Very nice foam, roasty and toasted. I like the color. Very dark brown black, with a coffee like foam. Taste is wonderful, bitter more than sweet. Full bodied and creamy. It is probably one of the best tasting dark beer I ever tried.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a very dark brown, nearly black color with a tiny fizzy head of cream colored foam. The head fades almost instantly, leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a roasted malt smell mixed with a bit of chocolate and smoke. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of grain and a hint of dark fruit. Taste – The taste begins with a mix of a roasted malt taste and a bit of a molasses and chocolate sweetness. As the taste moves on the roast seems to fade a little bit with more sweetness of molasses, chocolate, and some corn syrup coming to the tongue. With a little bit of a smoke and toast developing at the very end, a moderately sweet, but easy drinking darker taste is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thinner and crisper side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the abv. and lager style the slightly thinner body was rather nice, but for the darker flavors of the brew a little less carbonation and thicker body may have been slightly more appropriate. Overall, the feel was rather decent. Overall – A decent dark lager, but nothing all that out of the ordinary. Just alright overall.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2015 Pours a dark brown color. Looks like cola. About one finger beige head. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Swirling it around won’t make it form again. No lacing.

Aroma is dark roasted malts, maybe even slightly burnt. I smell a little chocolate and some caramel. Smells pretty good actually.

Okay I don’t know what went wrong. The taste is burnt brown sugar to the point that it’s almost chemical like. I also taste the dark roasted malts, and some caramel. But that taste....

Mouthfeel is not so good. Chemical burn. Maybe it’s the alcohol in it. At only 5% it shouldn’t be tasting like it does. Drinkability is poor, I don’t want to finish it.

Overall, this is pretty bad. I’m being super generous with my rating. Forget it, order Bud Light instead.

Poured from 11.2 ounce bottle labeled as the "San Miguel Cerveza Negra" alias--longneck, too, for a change--at Christine’s Casual Dining on Harrison Avenue in Dent, tasted on October 23, 2015. Dark brown/ruby color, aroma has attractive sweet malt battling with unattractive chemical smell, smooth mouthfeel with carbonation rather subdued, light sweet malty flavor with the chemical notes thankfully less than the nose advertised. Might have been a little old but still better than the regular San Miguel and a good choice at a place that doesn’t have an extensive beer list, like Christine’s.

Bottle in H&J watching the rugby. From the bottle, exact colour unknown. Malty, sweet. Actually sugary, like liquid brown sugar or molasses. Underattenuated, underhopped. Despite that vaguely interesting, but a little hard work. Reminded me slightly of those dreadful Belgian sweet stouts.

bottle. Pours a very dark brown with average-sized creamy beige head and moderate carbonation. Aroma is roasted caramel malt. Flavor is quite sweet and completely malty with cereal notes. Light and medium bodied with very little finish. Pretty much just one note, sweet throughout. Average.
