1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours clear garnet dark brown with a 2 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, sugar cane juice, a hint of molasses and grass. Flavor is sweet malt, corn, molasses, sweet grass and light metallic notes. Light to medium body, oily and syrupy, lightly carbonated. Not a fan, unmitigated malt sweetness and off tastes. Doesnít look half bad though.

Bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours brown in color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have some dark malts, chocolate, molasses, earthy hops, flavor isnít that bad, body a bit thin, somewhat surprising.

11.2oz bottle, from Jungle Jimís in Fairfield. Mostly hazy dark brown / red color. Thin light brown head. Leaves pretty good splotches and ropes of lace. Dark lagery fruitiness up front in the nose, kind of watery. Some good mild chocolate notes. Good hints of coffee, kind of a guinness-like flavor to it, but with more of a bite. Lightly toasty malts. Moderate bitter taste, light spicy bite, light sweet taste. Light to medium body.. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Pretty impressively easy drinking. Pretty damn nice one to wash my sandwich down with. You get some cheap macro lagery bite to this, but still itís a damn fine dunkel and way better than expected. Iíd drink this all day in the Phillipines (assuming there wasnít anything better... Havenít really explored the philipino beer scene much)

She pours a dark brown colored body with a slim fingerís worth of white foamy head that dies immediately. Some light lacing coats the sides of the glass but ends up sliding at a good pace.
The smell has a gentle soothing molasses/dark fruits invading my nose in a very dark sweet sort of way, comes through slightly smoky and roasty, some brown sugar ends up entering in more so as it warms.
The taste is mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors, slight sweet sugary aftertaste but nothing too invading as its slightly partial; no finish.
The palate sits about a medium of sorts on the body with a slightly moderate amount of carbonation coating the mouth and tongue in a decent way.
Overall, this is a decent Euro dark lager and I will commend San Miguel for taking a style that isnít widely accepted and making a decent stab at it. For me, I think I could have this again even though I donít know how fresh this is.

Bottle from Bertís labeled Cerveza Negra
Pours a solid dark brown with clear ruby highlights at the edges and a huge creamy off white head that takes forever to dissipate. Aromas of molasses overwhelm me as soon as I get beer to meet glass. Hints of smoke, roast, and chocolate round out the aroma, but my God this smells like sugary unfermented molasses mostly. Wow the flavor does not stray from the aroma much. Sweet brown sugar and molasses run the show here. Light prunes and plums in the flavor as well and little to counter the malty or adjuct-y sweetness in this beer. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet thick sugary syrupy mouthfeel. I have no way to tell how old this bottle is but I suspect it may be less than fresh. That said the burnt sugar and molasses seem to be all this beer offers, it reminds me more of the barley malt sodas that I had in the Caribbean than actual beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear dark brown pour with good mahogany highlights and fair ring of tan head. Pours almost like cola. Slightly metallic, but I think that is coming from the hops, which add just enough bitterness to balance out the sweet toffee and caramel malted notes. Kinda has a touch of sour twinge to it also. Definitely the best local beer by far. But that really isnít saying very much.

The roasted malts make of this brew one of the more decent mainstream beers in Asia. Good aroma of roasted chocolate beans and caramel. Dark ruby color, small tan head, no lace. Nice taste of roasted malts, mid sweetness, not hoppy. Abrupt finish with a bit of smokiness.
