Cerveza Negra has roasted malty notes which extends to its taste. It is full-flavored and full bodied. Bitterness is moderate but still smooth.

Pours clear garnet dark brown with a 2 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, sugar cane juice, a hint of molasses and grass. Flavor is sweet malt, corn, molasses, sweet grass and light metallic notes. Light to medium body, oily and syrupy, lightly carbonated. Not a fan, unmitigated malt sweetness and off tastes. Doesnít look half bad though.

Pours a dark brown color. Looks like cola. About one finger beige head. Once itís gone, itís gone. Swirling it around wonít make it form again. No lacing.

Aroma is dark roasted malts, maybe even slightly burnt. I smell a little chocolate and some caramel. Smells pretty good actually.

Okay I donít know what went wrong. The taste is burnt brown sugar to the point that itís almost chemical like. I also taste the dark roasted malts, and some caramel. But that taste....

Mouthfeel is not so good. Chemical burn. Maybe itís the alcohol in it. At only 5% it shouldnít be tasting like it does. Drinkability is poor, I donít want to finish it.

Overall, this is pretty bad. Iím being super generous with my rating. Forget it, order Bud Light instead.

Poured from 11.2 ounce bottle labeled as the "San Miguel Cerveza Negra" alias--longneck, too, for a change--at Christineís Casual Dining on Harrison Avenue in Dent, tasted on October 23, 2015. Dark brown/ruby color, aroma has attractive sweet malt battling with unattractive chemical smell, smooth mouthfeel with carbonation rather subdued, light sweet malty flavor with the chemical notes thankfully less than the nose advertised. Might have been a little old but still better than the regular San Miguel and a good choice at a place that doesnít have an extensive beer list, like Christineís.

Bottle in H&J watching the rugby. From the bottle, exact colour unknown. Malty, sweet. Actually sugary, like liquid brown sugar or molasses. Underattenuated, underhopped. Despite that vaguely interesting, but a little hard work. Reminded me slightly of those dreadful Belgian sweet stouts.

From NOTES. A: all malt. sweet caramel and raisin. little hint of yeasty breadiness. A: pours a dark auburn color with a nice foamy dark tan head. T: slightly watery with a hint of toasted or roasted malts. P: very light and borderline watery. O: Not offensive, but nothing to really endear.

bottle. Pours a very dark brown with average-sized creamy beige head and moderate carbonation. Aroma is roasted caramel malt. Flavor is quite sweet and completely malty with cereal notes. Light and medium bodied with very little finish. Pretty much just one note, sweet throughout. Average.

Light Cappuccino and toffee notes. Slightly sour mouth with some lingering chocolate notes in the finish. Best beer from these guys.

This beer is unfortunately not widely available in the Philippines, as it is a step up from the very poor SM Pilsener. Still, itís not much, a light and watery dark beer. I found it occasionally in Manila and Cebu, but cycling around the country never ran into it elsewhere. Sold as Negra.

Bottle brought back to UK from Cebu by Matt. Iíve had this in Philippines some years ago, and recall enjoying it then, and wasnít disappointed this time around. Pours a dark purple/black with a small tan colour head. Sweet toffee malt aroma, with dark fruits. Quite heavily sweet, light bitterness, medium body, oily texture. Long bittersweet finish. Decent enough brew.

Bottle from Liquor Collection Honolulu 251214. Thin dark brown to black colour with an unusual sweet flavour, almost honey like. Nice enough.

Branded as Cerveza Negra. Bottle at seafood restaurant in Panglao, Philippines. Much better than the other San Miguel beers. Roasted malts with a lot of caramel.
