1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 fidelis83 (1589) - Clinton, Iowa, USA - NOV 3, 2012Pours clear garnet dark brown with a 2 finger, creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, sugar cane juice, a hint of molasses and grass. Flavor is sweet malt, corn, molasses, sweet grass and light metallic notes. Light to medium body, oily and syrupy, lightly carbonated. Not a fan, unmitigated malt sweetness and off tastes. Doesn’t look half bad though.

Newcastle - like beer. Sweet aroma of molasses, nice pour, taste is excellent (but maybe a little watery). A very good beer.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 GTAEgeek (775) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - FEB 12, 2013
330 mL bottle. Dark brown, with a little ruby notes and a small, tan head. The aroma is heavy caramel, pine, peat, and a little black bread. Roasted sweetness up front, with a mellow sour and bitter finish. Medium body, sticky and a little acidic. Overall, this beer has a surprisingly complex nose, but the palate is weak. Not bad, though.

1/31/13. 330mL bottle from JP Henley’s labeled as "Negra." I keep finding the weirdest little ticks here I always assumed I had. Brown pour with a small khaki head. A terrible aroma of sour apples, fusels, burnt caramel, and metal entices my nose. Sweet and sour flavor as well with lingering burnt caramel, apples, and a touch of plasticy/smokey phenols. Not. Good.

33cl bottle from 99. Clear, deep red-brown pour with a short beige head with decent retention and leaving minimal lace. Nose is molasses. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Molasses, black cherries, toffee and raisins. Finish is brief and less sweet, with maybe a touch of citrus malt. Pleasantly surprised by this one - I could drink a few of these.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chinchill (580) - South Carolina, USA - JAN 12, 2013
Undated 355ml bottle served in a snifter. Poured very dark brown, topped by a tan head that quickly disappears, leaving little lacing. A thin coat of sediment was left on the bottom of the bottle. Good feel if a tad thin.
The aroma is pleasant, but so sweet that I worry about the flavor. Hints of toffee, dark fruits and caramel.
Flavor is more like a sweet stout than expected, coming close to being too sweet. Of course, compared to a stout the malt load here is mild, but respectable for style. Traces of hops in both the aroma and flavor, and hints of dark fruit.
O: enjoyable and better than expected. At least average even by European standards.
