This is a very, very average dark lager, from some of the ratings I was expecting much more. Average dark lager.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Aroma: lots of malt but seems overly sweet/burnt caramel-y; Appearance: dark ruby red with off white head that dissipates slowly; some lacing; Taste: follows nose; too malty and sweet with unpleasant roastiness; Palate; medium-heavy body with long, roasty finish; Overall: not good; would not buy again.

3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint at bar. Not much aroma but dark and luxurious appearance, which carries through into a silky mouthfeel. Creamy and refreshing and well balanced, with neither the burnt toffee, the sourness nor the sweetness dominating. Solid example of the style.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had at Orange Peel during drumming gig. Smells of heavy burnt malt, plum and preserved fruit, slightly herbal and some biscotti and booze. Taste is burnt malt, more bitter than the nose. Body is bitter, watery, lightly smoky and sour. A bit acidic but not bad considering.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Orange Peel for Steph's drumming. Black pour with big foamy tan head. Aroma is malty dark lager. Taste too - surprisingly rich and malty. Sort of metallic bitter lager taste underneath but not too much. Smooth palate but not heavy. Nice - way more interesting than regular San Miguel.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle - 330ml. Pours a dark brown body with an average beige foamy head. Malty aroma with liquorice and molasses hints. Its decent malty/hoppy taste carries woody, roasted cereals, and liquorice notes. Ends with a short roasty finish. Drinkable.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very nice foam, roasty and toasted. I like the color. Very dark brown black, with a coffee like foam. Taste is wonderful, bitter more than sweet. Full bodied and creamy. It is probably one of the best tasting dark beer I ever tried.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very dark brown, nearly black color with a tiny fizzy head of cream colored foam. The head fades almost instantly, leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a roasted malt smell mixed with a bit of chocolate and smoke. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of grain and a hint of dark fruit.
Taste – The taste begins with a mix of a roasted malt taste and a bit of a molasses and chocolate sweetness. As the taste moves on the roast seems to fade a little bit with more sweetness of molasses, chocolate, and some corn syrup coming to the tongue. With a little bit of a smoke and toast developing at the very end, a moderately sweet, but easy drinking darker taste is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thinner and crisper side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the abv. and lager style the slightly thinner body was rather nice, but for the darker flavors of the brew a little less carbonation and thicker body may have been slightly more appropriate. Overall, the feel was rather decent.
Overall – A decent dark lager, but nothing all that out of the ordinary. Just alright overall.
