COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
San Miguel Beer has been brewed since 1890 in the Philippines. A Spanish brewery, La Segarra, was created and licensed in 1946 to brew San Miguel Beer in Europe. In 1953 the Spanish brewery acquired sole and independent rights to San Miguel Beer in Europe, and by 1957 had changed its name to San Miguel. In 1991 Bulmers acquired to rights to distribute the Spanish brewed San Miguel in the UK. In 2000 the Spanish brewery Mahou bought the San Miguel Brewery, along with the European rights to San Miguel Beer. In 2003 Scottish & Newcastle purchased the UK distribution rights from Mahou, and brewed it in Edinburgh. In 2008 Carlsberg acquired the UK rights, and moved production to its brewery in Northampton. In 2010 Carlsberg reached a deal with Mahou to brew and distribute the 5% San Miguel throughout Europe. Mahou retain the brewing rights to all other European San Miguel branded beers.
European San Miguel 4.8% beers bought before 2010 are listed here. European San Miguel 5% beers are listed at San Miguel (Europe).

Typical south american lager. No Spanish touch, no top, pale yellow, corn taste, average carbonation. Noting to remember, but at least it is without bad aftertaste,

Slim can from Systembolaget (4,5%). Light smell, artificial and fruity. Similar taste, some pale bread. Hardly no bitterness. Very watery. Actually feels boozy despite the low ABV.

Typowe zwykle piwo. Litrowa butla. Typowy wyglad i smak koncerniaka. Nie polecam. Za duzo slodu i slodyczy, a za malo chmielu goryczki i wytrawnosci

Draught @ some restaurant, Madrid. Rated on 13.10.2008
Aroma has grainy malt, some corn and hints of honey. Flavour has grainy malt, some butter, honey and corn. Also a slight feeling of grassy hops in the finish. Bulky.

Awful piss water that is so bad it has to be served nearly frozen to be able to drink it.

0,5l can. 4,5%. Colour of gold. White head. Grainy and malty aroma and flavour. All in all, not much going on there. Light and watery. Medium carbonated. Plain. Some corn and metallic notes in the flavour too.

500 ml can. Rated @ 18.5.2010.
Clear golden colour with a white head. Aroma of metals and mild malts, not good. Flavour of pale malts with citrus notes. Light bodied, watery mouthfeel. Horrible.

33cl bottle poured into a tumbler. Sparkling gold with moderate white head. Aroma was slight malt. Flavor was barely there, slight sweetness with a mellow bitter finish. About what I expected.

Bottles and cans in Spain. Pours clear yellow with a dense white head. Of all lagers in Spain my favourite. Well balanced, crispy sessionable lager.
