No real colour, pours to a white head that falls off to nothing in a second flat. No lacing. Low malt notes if any. Bitter but not from hops almost artificial flavour. This beer is bloating and needs to be chilled to near zero to reduce to high carbonation. I am not sure why this one gets accolades as it is just another pale lager brewed from heavy use of corn sugar or similar adjunct. .

Aroma: Sweet corn, light citrus and a hint of metal.

Appearance: Clear golden with a flimsy white head that quickly fades. Light carbonation. No lacing marks.

Taste: Faint citrus, grain and sweetcorn syrup. Quite tangy.

Palate: Thin body with a watery texture. Average cabonation.

Overall: Not great - tangy and sweet.

GoufCustom (237) - HONG KONG - MAR 30, 2013

330 ml can, local version available just about everywhere in HK.

Piss-like golden yellow colour; Thin head and white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing and active carbonation; Initially pungent smell of malt, corn and rice which dies down rather quickly; Sweet taste of light malt, rice, light wet cardboard, citrus, grass, rubber, and rubbing alcohol; Watery body and palate, with rubbery and bad booze taste becomes increasingly nasty with further sips. Yuck! Hoppiness is considerably stronger than most macros, with bitterness comes out mid way for a mild and lasting finish. Quite dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: My first ever taste of beer was the local San Mig as a child. I had vague memory for that, but my friends and elders who had this keep telling me it was a rich and strong brew back then, not the watery swill it is today. Fast forward to now: the most popular brew in HK now comes with rubbing alcohol and rubbery taste to complement its already lowly image as fast selling beer water. Totally unbalanced, and the rubbery bad booze bonus is the last straw. I can only stand half a glass and the rest is drain pours. “The beer for Hong Kong people”? My answer is a resounding “No”.

Simple, clean, bit sweetish with a hint malt and high carbo. Just a usual pissy lager which is quite good accompanied by a nice meal. Bit below average.

Very good lager on draught, not the biggest fan of bottled lagers and so haven’t been that fussed on the bottles I’ve had. Couple of bottles July 2012 - still agree with above, better on draught, taste is deep syrupy sweetness (for a lager) followed by light bitterness. Not bad at all, but doesn’t seem to work as well out of a bottle.
