Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at The Coffee Grounds in Eau Clarie, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque bark brown colored brew with a creamy beige head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma roasted dark malt, a hint of soy, light molasses, some light prunes and a touch of raisin. Taste is medium to full bodied, flavor is quite complex with flavors of dark chocolate, molasses, dark pitted fruits, and some grassy hops. Finish is mildly spicy with a lingering bitterness , semi-dry, with some dark pitted fruit aftertaste.

Nice dark pour with a lasting head. Has a nice dark fruit scent, bold fruit flavored with an incredibly smooth alcohol taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear very dark cola color with a full lumpy light tan head. Aroma is molasses and dark dried fruit. Taste is sweet roasted malt, blackstrap molasses, slightly bitter burnt coffee beans and raisins. Very complex, but well balanced. ABV is there too, but not in your face. Super stuff!

Pours a viscous dark brown that sits near black in the glass. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Nose is slightly toasted and chocolaty with a forward malt character and herbal hop character. Slightly earthy. Metallic acidic dark grain character. Sharp and astringent.

I didn’t expect too much, these black barleywines often suck, but this one is one of the better ones.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, grapefruit, faint fruit, alcohol, and roast. It pours a dark brown with some red highlights and a small khaki head with some sporadic lacing. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, and faint Belgian yeast. The finish has moderate grapefruit and a touch of roast. It’s medium bodied with with mild carbonation.

This is an unusually ’tight ’ "black" beer compared to lusher, maltier BIPA’s. The hops kick in with a tree-bark bite, but then it gets interesting with a lasting sour bite at the back of the mouth. This beer will kind of have you sitting bolt upright in your chair and your eyes may bulge a bit, but when you pay a premium for exotic numbers like this one, it is an essential aspect of the experience.

This is a very interesting beer. I didn’t know what to think but I soon found myself looking for more.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark mahogany hue with a large cream colored head. The aroma is sweet toffee and caramel. A nice smooth flavor with caramel, light berries, dry throughout, some candies and plum, a bit of toasted malts, fruity hops throughout but little bitterness. Certainly odd to be called a black barley wine yet to be reddish and not unusual in any sense. Also, the Belgian quality is puzzling to me. Otherwise, a very good barley wine, solid and tasty.
