3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark mahogany hue with a large cream colored head. The aroma is sweet toffee and caramel. A nice smooth flavor with caramel, light berries, dry throughout, some candies and plum, a bit of toasted malts, fruity hops throughout but little bitterness. Certainly odd to be called a black barley wine yet to be reddish and not unusual in any sense. Also, the Belgian quality is puzzling to me. Otherwise, a very good barley wine, solid and tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Opaque brown-black, respectable beige head. Sweet piny chocolate tones, woody, resinous, maybe some burnt coffee as well. This beer would be awesome barrel aged. Dry, chocolate hop bitterness, not unlike a Black IPA, but with the Belgian yeast really adding dimension and complexity. Big rich flavor, but quite drinkable. Well done!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours deep brown/black with a thick tan head. Aroma is mild but has a roastiness with delicate spicy hop notes. Flavor is hop forward with herbal and spicy hop notes and some burnt roasty malt notes and faint dark chocolate following. Mouthfeel is heavy and silky with a bitter, roasty warming finish. Very interesting and tasty!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz. Bottle. Didnít know what to expect as I havenít had a beer quite in this style. Smells sweet, a little nutty, and mild piney hops. Looks deep brown with a tight bubbled tan head with leaves clumpy lacing on the glass. Tastes slightly nutty, decent initial hopping adds a dryness on the back of the palate, overall sweet in character with notes of caramel and candied sugar. Good beer, glad I found it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Poured clear, deep reddish-brown with a creamy, well-retained beige head.. looked very good in the glass. The aroma picked up sweet biscuit, toffee, and redder fruity notes, with another layer of fruit deeper down.. warm and well-balanced, but not too exciting. The flavor found molasses, burnt black patent, and some chocolate maltage at the core.. quite bitter around, with pine resin leading and a bit of earth tagging along.. finished fruity and bitter, with a nice kick of peppery alcohol in the end. Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. silky feel across the middle.. some of the flavors were a little muddled, but overall this was well-balanced and tasty. Iíll gladly have another.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black with red hues, tons of soft, off-white head and good lacing. Light cocoa, skunky hops, and Belgian candy gives this beer a bit of an odd aroma. Flavor is a bit better with refined roast malt, light molasses/caramel, and finishing with some moderate, almost citrus, hop flavor. Pretty dry, almost taking away from the finish. Some lingering candy/faint roast. Ok mouthfeel, but Belgian yeast steals some of the maltiness. Pretty smooth, perfectly carbonated. Pieces are there, but choppy.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - Dark cola color with a thin off-white head. Molasses, caramel, dark chocolate and lots of herbal hops. A bit spicy. Kind of reminded me of Nemesis í10. Lots of herbal, spicy hops in the taste, with lots of pumpernickel bread malt and a spicy yeast finish. Smooth as heck, with a pretty full body. Not too bad, but not really my style.
