Pour produced a brown-black body with a slightly cascading brown head of foam with moderate to heavy lacing and fair rocky retention. Aroma is chocolate with some slight spice to the nose. Good bittersweet flavor with low carbonation and slightly watery mouthfeel. Coffee and dark, bitter roasting dominate the palate, as is typical with the style. Nothing out of the ordinary here, folks, which makes for a satisfying stout. MartiniFiend (70), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle. Almost black in color with a dirty borun head. Malty aroma with a hint of chocolate. Thick to the palate. Flavor is slightly bitter malt followed by a semi sweet finish. Nuffield (2534), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jul 11, 2008 Mostly opaque dark brown with tan head. Nutty and somewhat roasted aroma, with a moderately rich body that is fairly midling for a palate. Vanilla-nut element in the aroma foreshadows a milky coffee flavor that has a mildly lactic quality and a hint of celery seed. Moderately dry finish, low bitterness. Not particularly satisfying in my book. bhensonb (2769), Woodland, California, USA Jul 8, 2008 Bottle from the Beer Geek. Opaque brown/black color with a very flat tan head. Mixed aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Almost medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is roasted malt, with light coffee and light chocolate. It is very pleasing. Finishes near medium body with relatively dry aspects. A stout that could be a session ale. Mouthsmackingly good. kmeves (990), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Jun 28, 2008 Pours a deep black with a thick and frothy tannish head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, roasted malt and freshly ground coffee beans. Flavor is not as sweet as advertised but some chocolate and coffee come through. Finishes thin, short and dry.
