Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Slightly soft palate, semi dry. Smooth dry powdery chocolate. slightly dark chocolate character. Lactose that is a little sour. Good fruit underneath - fig and raisin. Semi dry finish. Lots of flavour here but it’s somehow disjointed.

I’m a sucker for smoke and roasted malt flavors, so this was right up my alley. Didn’t notice that alcohol. Poured a decent dark brown with a tan head. Some light chocolate notes in the nose and taste. Long finish, rather played on the tongue. A bit of coffee, bitter smell as well. Nice.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a dark amber color with a white head. The aroma has some chocolate notes, but there is also an off-putting quality that resembles trash. The flavor has a lot of chocolate and some very burnt malt notes which are so strong they make the beer tough to drink. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12oz bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Deep brown with a small amount of head. There is one word that sums up this beer - burnt! Tasted and smelled like when you leave something in the over for way too long. Grains and chocolate.

Bottle pours deep brown with hints of red underneath a beige head. Aroma shows dark chocolate, oatmeal, vanilla, light coffee, and more roast than the original. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of smoke and a hint of blackstrap. Overall body was a little thinner than I was expecting, somewhat sweet, and finishes with a touch of warming alc.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a very dark murky brown with a large (2-3 finger) light brown frothy head that was mostly diminishing and had poor lacing, The aroma was nice and robust of a dark roasted cereal malt and a sweet leathery yeast with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, molasses, a hint of oats and a touch of alcohol. The taste was silky sweet and had a nice chocolate note in the beginning and finished with a slightly bitter tinge that had a strong note of coffee and chocolate with a touch molasses at the end. The flavor was left to linger a nice long time after the swallow allowing for the chocó-coffee flavor to settle nicely on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was somewhere between medium and full in body, a tad oily and a little dry yet very creamy in texture with a nice lively carbonation. Overall an exquisitely smooth, tasty, robustly satisfying brew that had all of the flavors blending together so perfectly that the high alcohol content was hidden completely.

(12oz bottle) clear ruby/deep brown pour. Nose of chocolate, oats, and burnt grain. Taste of burnt toast, raisin and a burnt linger.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, smoke, and a touch of vanilla. It pours a dark brown, with no transparency, and a one finger khaki head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring after about a minute or so. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, lighter caramel, a touch of vanilla, and fruit. The finish has light smoke and just a touch of roast. Medium bodied with very mild carbonation and a somewhat thin mouthfeel. Overall, a tasty stout, but lacking in mouthfeel.
