Bottle from Asahiya. Thick, malty initial, with some citrus hop notes. Light copper/brown color. Slight harsh caramel initial / buttery and sweeter in mid / very light hop tracks in finish. Medium body. Overall, a bit rough for an amber. The aroma is fairly pleasant; the flavors are so so. Okay.

5.5% a clear amber brown with an off-white head. Malty caramel, grains with some citrusy hops in the aroma. The taste is fairly neutral, mild caramel, grains, slightly bitter finish. Not as sweet as I’d expect from an amber ale, more of a solid all around ale that doesn’t disappoint nor does it really please. As average as can be. As I drink it with my meal it grows on me with more maltiness coming through & a nice full mouthfeel-very satisfying. It’s quite bready, it went from average to I like it over the course of a bottle.

Bottle from Izuya. Dark amber colour with big fluffy off-white head. Aroma is very malty, maybe even a little bit spicy, ginger perhaps. Biscuits, bit of something floral. Taste is good. Once again, lots of malt, finish has touch of bitterness and bit of a spike. Fruity too, cherry or raspberry hidden in there somewhere and lots of brown bread. Very drinkable.

On bottle from a shop at Tokyo station. Pours a dark caramel brown with almost no head. Deep caramel malts on the nose. Rich flavor, a little more heavy than I’d like, but not bad for a Japanese beer.

Pours a nice brown toffee copper with caramel, apricot, and malty notes on the nose. Slightly carbonated in the mouth but the flavour shines through quite nicely with a nutty, almond-ish taste, some more of that caramel, singed rope hairs, sugar, and slight hints of raspberry. The finish was quite bitter and lingered on the tongue. Enjoyable...thanx SG!

Draught at Wachi in Kyoto. Medium amber with orange. Lace. Fragrant amber malt and hop aroma, with fruits. Earthy amber malt flavor, with a bit of caramel and chocolate. Fruity—berries? Great hops. Powerful, long-lasting finish of hops, light amber malt and a bit of fruit. Very well balanced.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2007 Pours copper with light orange hues in the highlights. Has a thin off-white head. Aroma is citrus hops, malts, a little molasses, and some floral. Has a solid, medium body. Flavor is malty, some hops and a bit of brown sugar. Finishes fairly bitter. Struck me more as a pale ale than amber, but a good brew no matter the style.
