BückDich (4503), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2007 Tasted @ GJBF Yokohama: Dark black, nice tan head and clean lacing. Nose of tequila and wood, sweet roast, lots of licorice and molasses. Good stout, very sweet. Capa (681), Yokosuka, Japan Sep 16, 2007 @ GJBF 2007. Sweet aroma, brown sugar, cookie dough, malts, and molasses. Similar flavor, brown sugar is big, roasted malts, caramel, some cocoa, and vanilla. Finish is sugary molasses. A good/interesting stout. steview (736), Oceanside, California, USA Aug 2, 2007 sweet and sugary, chocolate, molasses; dark brown pour, opaque brown body, dark ruby highlight, nice and soapy tan head; vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate, a little brown sugar, some molasses, a little tangy; smooth, not bad... MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 26, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This Sweet Stout develops plenty of chocolate and spicy vanilla for its chewy body, yet remains somewhat linear compared to the greats of its category.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the total darkness.
-Some fitting tartness follows the main flavor attributes.
-The nose isn’t as expressive as the flavor profile.
-The sweetness carries minty topics.
-Carbonation is soft and works with the well-developed body.
-Roastiness doesn’t balance out all the sweetness, but still participates in the flavor profile.
Bottle; thx Tim! TimE (1013), Tokyo, Japan Jun 25, 2007 Note: Kokuto mean Brown Sugar in English. Pitch black color. Dark brown head. Brown sugar nose that is kind of one - demensional and misleading. Its misleading because the mouth sings of dark chocolate, vanilla, brownies, cooking chocolate and molassess. Molassess and dark chocolate persist in the finish. A bit thin, but that didn’t destract too much.
