3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
My Bottom Line:
This aromatic Wheat Wine displays kiwis and oranges within honeyed cereals before moving into coniferous hop bitterness and relative dryness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the misty amber shine.
-The resinous bitterness is long lasting.
-The tropical fruit nose is amazingly reminiscent of kiwi juice.
-This is one memorable Wheat Wine that does not try to emulate any other beer in its style category. Good job !
-Extra kudos for brewing a strong ale worthy of such a memorable bottle.
On tap at Watering Hole.

Tap at Craft Beer Market Toranomon. Had to drink this quickly as it took a while to come and we were about to leave. Maybe where the night started to go a bit off-track for me! Golden coloured, small head. Aroma is booze, apples, in fact apple friitters, marzipan. Taste surprisingly easy drinking, apple again, not a hint of booze in the taste. Bit of sweetness. Smooth.

Tap at Watering Hole, Tokyo. Hazy copper colour with a white head. Sweet aroma of citrus, lime. Sweet sour flavour. A bit of bitterness in the after taste.

Draught at Lezzet. Unusual fresh ume (plum) juice aroma, tsukemono (pickles), and a persistent heavy phenolic aroma. Nice copper color, no head. Rotten oranges, some zest in initial; bittering kicks in; final has a long bitter trail. Thin-medium body. Maybe too fresh. Would like to try this one in a year or so; the pub manager has another keg which she said she’ll hold for aging. The phenolic character is a bit distracting; can’t detect the wheat at all. Interesting stuff, but it needs to age a bit. More of a young, dirty devil at this point than an angel.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2012 Draught at Molto. Ruch amber-orange with lace. Estery nose, sweet orange, peach, grape must. Rich sweet fruity flavor, melon, some banana, grape, orange, honey. Slightly phenolic. Good fruit with a nicely bitter finish. Full and smooth palate. Good stuff, and more approachable than fresh Diablo. Less complex and more phenolic the second time I had it. Why?...was it me?

A nice way to end a day with a special person. You weren’t with me physically, but enjoyed our trip down memory lane together. Pours nearly flat as a tack. Big American BW nose - Citrus, pine, caramel and OJ. Very smooth and easy drinking. Orange peel, zest, wheat and a sweet dry finish. Not overtly complex but way to easy to drink for 9.5%. Great packaging too. Cheers Rie.
