It’s 1807 and Luís María Peralta is looking out the window of his small adobe house in Pueblo San José. Little could he have imagined that over 200 years later his home would still be standing.
Our Peralta Porter displays the same hearty character as this resilient landmark. Pouring earthen brown, this ale is built upon a light caramel foundation which firmly supports its chocolate and coffee flavors, finishing with a soft bitterness and earthy hoppiness we know you’ll enjoy.

Bottle. Pours deep clear reddish mahogany, medium creamy tan head, great lacing. Aroma is chocolate, bit of ashtray, roasted malts. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, rich and creamy with cocoa, light burned notes, perhaps a touch of lactose. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. This is good.

Bottle, dark brown with a beige head. Earthy lightly roasty aroma. Lots of lace. Drinkable. I would like more mouthfeel. Lots of licorice, hops and roast.

Bottle from Best damn beer store. Pours black with an inch of khaki foam. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Some solid roasted malt on the nose. Dry, biter’s baker’s chocolate on the tongue. Finishes well with a slight linger. Solid.

22oz bottle from Cask n’ Flask, San Jose, CA. Glossy mahogany appearing pitch with a huge swell of grey-tan foam. Slightly saliva-prompting scent of fresh blackcurrant, cinder toffee, filter coffee dregs and high cocoa milk chocolate. Mousse-like body bearing blackcurrant and chocolate goodies; fine-sieved cocoa roast, Neopolitan ice cream, charred nut- everything underpinned by juicy crisp curry leaf and orange hop. Properly balanced porter, leaning towards BIPA. Top drop.

Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a distinct chocolate and coffee flavor with a dry slightly bitter finish. Lots of flavor.

Pours dark brown with a little bit of ruby to it. Appears to have little cloudiness but it’s hard to tell with the fairly dark color. Big khaki head. Lots of fine bubbles. Good retention with some lacing. The aroma is big on chocolate and caramel. It’s a nice mix of milk chocolate, cocoa and gooey caramel. The taste isn’t as sweet as I expected from the aroma. Lots of chocolate but it’s pretty dry. There’s a roast, coffee flavor. Mild caramel. A touch of herbal hop bitterness in the finish. Despite the dryness, the mouthfeel is fairly creamy. Nice fullness to the beer. I’m not blown away, but this is a solid porter.

Bomber from Bobby’s in Santa Clara, CA. Pours very dark brown with a big foamy tan head. Aroma is dark milky chocolate and dark malt. Med body or better. Flavor is mostly chocolate, some less than dark malt, and something suggesting citrus hop. Or floral/earthy hop. Hard to pin that down. Decent drink.
