3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GIJOE (145) - Monterey, California, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Definitely black as night. Froths up a good 1-2 fingers of head, which dissipates within a minute or two into sparse bubbles on the surface and light lacing.
Aroma is largely dark malt, with some hints of anise, straw, leather, and some woodiness. There’s also something slightly metallic, as if it came from a can (it’s from a bomber).
Taste has more the metallic note, some cocoa, hint of coffee, A tad sour. Tart finish hangs pretty long.
Fairly light body for the style, a little dry, soft carbonation.
Not bad, but not a favorite by any means.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 skmikeg (443) - Poway, California, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Pours a dark black-brown with a huge five finger foamy tan head which fades very slowly to crazy lacing. Aroma is light for a stout and is of roasted malts, some coco powder, faint coffee notes, maybe some anise, and a faint metallic note. Taste is slightly better then the aroma and is of roasted malts, chocolate, dark coffee, some anise, some dark fruits, a little mild hop bitterness. Has a medium body with a slightly thin, watery, fizzy mouthfeel, and a slightly bitter, short, slightly metallic finish. Overall, a decent oatmeal stout that is lacking in body and could be better without the metallic notes in the aroma and finish.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 burleybrew (15) - - SEP 18, 2012
Really carbonated/over carbonated. Very black with tan head. Black malt notes with slight caramel sweetness. Tastes like Black Patent & not too much roast from other grains. It’s a decent stout, but nothing to get excited about. Seems one dimensional.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 lukemundy (32) - - SEP 9, 2012
Dark with a ridiculous head. Like, impossible to drink head. The nose and flavor are both strong coffee with some sweet malts.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (4035) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 7, 2012
Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small soapy dark tan head that faded quickly and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was black licorice, wood and a bit of tobacco. The flavor was bitter, roasty and woody with notes of licorice and tobacco. The finish was long and quite bitter with lingering roastiness, licorice and wood. Medium body and fairly smooth texture. Ok.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small brown head that dissipates quickly. Strong aroma of coffee and heavily roasted malt. Taste mimics nose, but with a moderately bitter finish. A bit watery on the palate.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Koskela (145) - Marysville, California, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Nice head on this beer fore sure took bout 20 min. To pour. The smell is roasted malt with a little bit of sweetness. The taste is almost chocolate vannilla kinda taste. Not bad for an oatmeal stout, its medium/full bodied and leaves a chocolate aftertaste. The oatmeal is lacking but still a respectable beer.
