Our darkest ale is a true American Stout. Black as a moonless night and full of chocolate and roasted barley flavor, This beer has a creamy, velvety texture from the oats and finishes smooth.

22 ounce bottle purchased at Cost Plus World Market in Davis, CA. Aroma has some burnt roastiness with hints of sweet sugar and anise. Pretty interesting aroma. Mostly opaque dark brown body with a large, dark tan head that leaves some nice lacing. Starts with a little coffee flavoring with a touch of sweetness. Pretty carbonated. Finishes with a burnt, roasted, bitter chalky flavor and mouthfeel.

Bomber from Market of Choice. Pours a dark ass black with a thick, bubbly tan head. Aroma is redolent with chocolate and some roastiness. Flavor is also hefty chocolate, light roast and some mild coffee. Palate is very thin, but that’s relatively typical for the style. Solid offering, no regrets here.

This black ale poured with a rich tan head and a strong chocolate aroma. There is also a lot of chocolate in the flavor, which is smooth but sort of thin. It’s a decent oatmeal stout, but not among the best of the style.

From tap at the brewery. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Solid roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Dark malt flavoured, hard roasted and light herbal coffee like finish. Bitter and roasted malt acidic finish, light fruity hoppy note. Smooth mouthfeel.

Bottle. Black pour but not thick. Tan head. Nose is dark roast coffee and a little vanilla extract. Taste is a mouthful of roast and bittesweet chocolate. Palate isn’t as big as I would have thought but the flavor is full even though this is quite drinkable. The body more closely resembles a porter but the flavor is robust enough that you know you are drinking a stout. Enjoyable and drinkable.

Draft 1/2 pint at the brewery’s tasting room. Dark black with a nice creamy tan head. Creamy consistency to the drink, too. Almost bittersweet chocolatey, you could use this in lieu of baking chocolate. Nice. (#3590, June 2009)

Pours opaque brn/blk with a slight tan head. Aromas of dark bitter chocolate, toasted malt, and perhaps vanilla. Near full in body with rather creamy carbonation. Flavor is strong toast malt, chocolate, and probably smoke. Finishes dry, chocolatey and a touch ashy. Over all pretty good stuff. Lots of flavor.
