COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Black IPA transcends style. The idea is simple, but the flavor is complex. It is everything you want in a great IPA, but with a little bit of chocolate. The crisp, dry punch of hops leaves you wondering how this beer has such a balanced flavor. The secret is Midnight Wheat. Aromas of passion fruit, citrus, and pine cut their way through the dark malts to both titillate and challenge the senses. The dry finish and dark ebony color are distinctive characteristics for this winter seasonal and make for a smooth and approachable beer for the masses.

I very much enjoyed this beer. A smooth IPA with the taste benefits of darker beers. I was pleasantly surprised at how balanced this beer is. Love it!! MKH---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark malty aroma. Dark color. Dark malty start and finish. Not a big fan of this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Kelly Liquor in Las Cruces. Pours a dark brown with bubbly carbonation and huge, foamy, tan head. Big aroma of dank, piney hops with a hit of pineapple too plus an almost cinnamon spice. Big flavor with obvious green hop bitterness but also some caramel and coffee. This rated out way better than expected. Big, tasty beer.

Very dark mahogany color with a large, rocky beige head that left sheets of lacing on the sides of the glass. Citrus hop nose with a strong dusty grain tone. Red grapefruit zest and bitter orange hop flavors in the taste with some milk chocolate notes, The finish is a long, bitter grapefruit rind and burnt toast finish. Interesting take on the Black IPA.

Tasted on draft at 2015 St. Louis Microfest in a willi becher glass. It poured an near-opaque deep reddish brown with sudsy beige foam. True to style American IPA traits: very malty and very hoppy, plus some extra toasted grain complexity. Strong grapefruity and resiny traits. Not terribly bitter but lots of flavour and aroma. Medium body and carbonation, lingering hoppy aftertaste.

12 oz can from Wilbur’s. Appearance: 3 fingers tan head, dark brown color, clear, good lacing, head lasts. Aroma: caramel, floral, light oats, undertones of pine. Palate: medium to full body, soft carbonation, velvety texture, bitter finish, light dry finish. Taste: sweet caramel and nuttiness, with notes of chocolate sweetness as well (very milk stouty), into some floral and light pine bitterness that grow and take over the taste. Overall, very smooth, very interesting, and above all, very enjoyable!

Can at home. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt with prunes, earthy and spicy hops and licorice notes. Flavor is rich dark malt, dark fruits, lightly tart, earthy and spicy hops with medium hop bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation.

Can pours tar-black with tan lace. Smooth, balanced, melted licorice and mile chocolate on the palate. Hides its 7.1% ABV well, finishing round and sweetly pleasant. Overall, I could’ve used more hop aroma for this style, but a very good beer.

Can. Pretty decent black ipa. Citrus and pine hops, and some coffee and chocolate flavors. Well balanced and drinkable, especially for 7.1%.

Can as a trade extra. Thanks! Pours black with a big fluffy off white to khaki colored head. Nice aroma of pine, roast, grass, very pleasant. Flavor is roasty and porter like with some chocolate notes, a bit of spicy influence, and some balancing grassy and somewhat citrusy hops. Medium light bodied, medium plus carbonation. Pretty easy drinker, but not particularly distinguishable from the trove of the style out there that tend to not be super exciting. Worth drinking, not really worth seeking out unless this is your style.
