3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz can. Pours a clear, dark brown with reddish hues. Aroma is tangerine, pine, toffee. Flavor is pine, citrus, toffee, caramel, roasted grain. A nice Black IPA. Has the bitterness of the IPA, but a sweetness from the darker malts. Quite flavorful and easy on the palate.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a deep almost black and some ruby amber notes when held to the light. Large foamy lighter tan head that that left sticky lacing. Aroma of citrusy hops, berries and light roast. Flavor of grapefruit, pine, roast, caramel. Dry, roasty and aggressively bitter.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from a 12 oz can, it looks like a stout, but the aroma is citrus hops. The flavor is complex, but balanced with hints of citrus, pine &, chocolate. Sweet aftertaste and a dry finish.

In a can. Huge aroma of roasting coffee. Packs a pine hops punch and then the coffee notes come through. Maybe licorice too. My favorite black IPA?

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz can. Rating #55. Almost black, but their are some dark amber highlights showing through when held up to the light, light tan head on top of all of that with some pretty nice lacing. Light roast and chocolate with some pine hoppiness as well. Flavor is roasty and bitter up front that last s pretty well throughout the drinking process and beyond. (2826)

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.
A - Pours dark brown, almost black with a 2 finger khaki head that has very good staying power. Decent lacing patterns.
S - Roasted hops, grain, toasted pine needles, lots of coffee.
T - Roasted grains, green pine hops, cola sweetness, some cocoa and coffee flavors, Santa Fe yeast, bitterness is tame but carries into the finish.
M - Medium body, good carbonation, wet with a bitter finish.
Nothing wrong here but nothing outstanding either. A safe and simple American black ale that I had no problem drinking. I kind of liked the coffee which is not something you find in most American black ales.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle; Poured roasted coffee brown with a light tan head. Aroma: Hops/ Grass/ Hay. Flavor: Complex array of spices in this beer/ Taste is of earth, grass/ pine but also has elements of tropical fruit, but more tart than sweet. The finish reminds me of licorice.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle; poured a dark brown color with a khaki colored head. Strong hoppy aroma. Hops shine through, with a nice Simcoe presence. Piney, earthy, with some floral and fruit elements. Not too much of the "black" part in the aroma. Flavor had something strange about it, but still was good overall. Hops not over the top, but would have liked a bit more assertive roasted elements. Piney almost herbal. Good overall.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice dark color, a bit astringent, but there is some chocolatey sweetness to balance most of it out. Tried this in Houston with some oysters and it was pretty good.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 fl oz / 355mL can into a pint glass. Served cool.
Aroma: Big citrusy, piney hop presence. Thereís a slight coffee-ish smell, but hops are king here. Itís quite pleasant.
Appearance: This is a handsome brew. Almost opaque ruby/black with an incredibly thick, solid light tan head. Incredibly handsome.
Taste: Once again, hops are king here. On the end of the finish, the flavor transitions to some nice, subtle roasty malts. Really nice depth of flavor though.
Palate: Full bodied, rich, and that nice balance between smooth and bite that you get with a good black IPA. Excellent!
Overall: What a fantastic brew. I had it for the first time at a tasting a few months ago, and I had to pick up a six pack to revisit it and give it a proper review. Really fantastic. Easy to drink, but it is a fantastic example of the style.
