As its name suggests, this Pilsner does not like to be categorized. Inquiring whether it is a German, Czech, Bavarian, American, or any other style pilsner will result in an impatient sigh and the explanation that the whole philosophy behind this pilsner is that it does not fall into any categories. True, it is brewed with traditional ingredients (soft water, pilsner malt, saaz hops, and German yeast), but it is the way that these ingredients interact, and the characteristics of the yeast, that cause this particular pilsner to defiantly stand alone. The assertively hopped Freestyle pils exudes the flavor and the aroma of the classic Saaz hop (a tribute to “the original” pilsner), while maintaining enough body to balance but not overpower this hop’s pleasant, spicy tone. An unhurried lagering process so frequently overlooked by American craft brewers is strictly adhered to in the production of Freestyle, which makes this beer by far the most light, clean, and quenching beer in the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s line up. Malts: Pilsner, Vienna Hops: Saaz

Pours a sparkling pale yellow with medium-sized white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is clean fresh grain. Light grain flavor, well balanced with just a slight bitterness in the finish. Light bodied and easy to drink. A very good pilsner.

A pale blonde pilsner with a thick frothy white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with loads of German hops, light mineral notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, OK. Can.

"Very grassy pilsner, too my liking, though it doesn’t stand out. Otherwise a well made, fairly classic example of the style. I wouldn’t turn one down, don’t know about buying..."

Taste is very apple juice like with some yeastiness and light grassy hops. Super apple like maltiness. A bit yeastier than I like and sweeter too but at least its a bit unique. Not dry enough, clean enough, or hoppy enough to be very crisp or refreshing.

12 oz can; gold color; musty aroma; sweet malt flavor; slightly fruity; almost like a blonde ale - a bit of ale-like fruitiness; I would have preferred a bit more crisp and hoppy

Can numerous times now I’m finally rating it pours pale yellow hue with a small fizzy white head that lasts forevermore. Nose is german hops pale grains lite grassy notes. Solid. Flavors exhibit lots of hop bitterness with lots of grapefruit and cereal. Solid pils need to have it on tap.

Hazy straw color with a small white head. The aroma is saaz and some clean pilsner malt. A nice bready note is most dominant, and the hops meld nicely. The flavor starts out sweet and finishes crisp and slightly bitter.
