As its name suggests, this Pilsner does not like to be categorized. Inquiring whether it is a German, Czech, Bavarian, American, or any other style pilsner will result in an impatient sigh and the explanation that the whole philosophy behind this pilsner is that it does not fall into any categories. True, it is brewed with traditional ingredients (soft water, pilsner malt, saaz hops, and German yeast), but it is the way that these ingredients interact, and the characteristics of the yeast, that cause this particular pilsner to defiantly stand alone. The assertively hopped Freestyle pils exudes the flavor and the aroma of the classic Saaz hop (a tribute to “the original” pilsner), while maintaining enough body to balance but not overpower this hop’s pleasant, spicy tone. An unhurried lagering process so frequently overlooked by American craft brewers is strictly adhered to in the production of Freestyle, which makes this beer by far the most light, clean, and quenching beer in the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s line up. Malts: Pilsner, Vienna Hops: Saaz

Pale yellow gold color out of the can with a short lived white head. Light grainy nose with some lemon citrus notes. Some white bread, lemon zest, spice and yeast. Not a bad beer, but not very interesting

Can from soonerchamps, thanks! Pours a light golden/yellow color with a finger of creamy white head. Little bits of lacing. Has a subtle aroma of bready malts and grass, but also a little wet dog. Same translates to the taste… a little more emphasis on the wet dog. As it warms, the presence of alcohol becomes evident; odd for a 5.5% pils. Kinda exhbits that skunky feeling associated with some lagers... Nothing too terribly offensive, just not real refreshing in my eyes.

Can. Pours a clear yellow with a white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet grains with a bit of light fruit and grassy hops underlying. Flavor has more grassy hops with earthy grains and a bit of backing light fruit.

12oz can poured into a pint glass. Bright clear yellow with a little lace on the sides of the glass. Smells earthy with a twinge of alcohol. Tastes like a pilsener, not much mineral flavor and not a very strong flavor. Very easy to drink and I’d probably have one on a hot day sitting on the porch. Sampled on 10/3/2012. This pilsner pours a light yellow gold color from a 12oz can. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is cereal, fruity, sweet and spicy. A medium to light bodied pilsner. The malts are fruity, cereal and sweet. The hops are herbal and spicy. Nice soft carbonation. A very full mouthfeel for a pilsner. Bright, crisp and clean, very refreshing. A very nice summer beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

12oz can. Pours a sparkling pale yellow with medium-sized white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is clean fresh grain. Light grain flavor, well balanced with just a slight bitterness in the finish. Light bodied and easy to drink. A very good pilsner.
