This is the kind of beer that gives the word "stout" a reputation. Extra generous quantities of barley malt, followed by vigorous fermentation leaves this "imperial" heavy weight with 8% alcohol A.B.V. and a body as full as chocolate bread pudding. A complimentary and complex array of bitter notes comes form potent American hops, earthy British hops, black-roasted malts and, of course, coffee. Santa Fe Brewing Company uses only top-quality ingredients like organically grown East Timor coffee beans blended with New Guinea coffee beans, locally roasted by O’hori’s Coffee House. Its heavenly flavor and aroma can’t be beat or imitated.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2014 Draft at the brewery, served in a pint glass. Pours an opaque coffee brown with a small beige head. The aroma is virtually nothing but coffee. Same with the flavor. Like cold coffee. The body is a bit thin and has a metallic note late. Moderate carbonation. Not really my thing. Re-Rate: So this tastes better from a can than on tap at the source. Go figure. The coffee pops more, and everything is smoother. Upgrade.

1/2 pint @ draught house. Appearance is black, translucent, small khaki head fades. Aroma is definitely coffee, that’s about it! The taste is dark rich coffee, burnt, medium-bitter, and just a tiny bit hoppy. Long aftertaste, lingers. Heavy body, but fizzy on the tongue at the end.

Pours dark, dark ruby with a tiny light beige head. Smells of coffee, coffee, and coffee. Taste is coffee, coffee, and coffee, with coffee bitterness. Medium-to-full bodied with a smooth texture and lightly fizzed mouth-carbonation, Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout finishes with a touch of coffee bitterness.

Can: Great coffee nose. Dark-roasted flavors. Syrupy sweetness (sweet cream, vanilla, caramel and taffy). Some burntness as well. Scorchy bitterness lingers on the tongue. A little stark in the middle, and the sweetness is a bit much, but it’s still a decent coffee stout.

Lucky enough to get one of the last of these. Excellent and I wanted more. Coffee flavor was good but not overdone. Good job.

This is really good! Pours a rich dark blackish brown. Great coffee nose followed by some chocolate notes. Tastes of rich unroasted green coffee, earthy like. Followed by more coffee flavors mixed with dark chocolates. The malt sweetness blends well with these flavors. The finish is still dominated by coffee. When they say java they mean java. This is more than just a great breakfast drink!

Santa Fe Imperial Java Stout A- Pours dark brown with a thick light brown 3 finger head. S- earthy, fresh ground coffee and dark chocolate. T- follows the nose very well. The earthy coffee flavor hits the palate first followed by chocolate flavors and slight hop bitterness to round out the finish. M- medium mouthfeel with a moderate amount of carbonation. Not much in the aftertaste. O- this is an excellent coffee stout. I like the dirty/earthy flavors of the coffee. It's definitely on the lower end of the Imperial ABV, but it makes it more drinkable. The price point is also excellent, $9-$11 for a six pack. -
