Imperial coffee stout in a can = sweet. Pours a dark brown with nice lasting beige head. The aroma roasted coffee and noticable coffee bitterness and earth. Taste was heavy roasted coffee, and big chocolately splashes. Good bitterness from the coffee with a peppery bit of a finish and just a tad sweet. Medium-bodied with light fizzy carbonation. Overall, really liked it, but it was pretty in your face coffee, but I like that sort of thing.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had in Aspen, can poured into snifter. Pours with a light head that dissipates rather quickly, beer a deep red and brown. Strong coffee aromas with some caramel and hop coming through. Light and carbonated mouthfeel with crisp finish. Coffee flavor up front and lasting at the end. A bit more coffee than my liking but it's pretty clear of that in the name! Still a solid stout.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Can at home. Pours an opaque black with a small beige head. Quite sweet with aromas of coffee and burned malts. Also aromas of burned caramel and hints of dried fruits. Medium to full bodied. Medium carbonation. Bitter finish. Bit too sweet... like a crossover of a porter an a white Russian.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can. Pours a near-black color with a moderate tan head on there. Nose is dominated by some dark-roasted coffee in an entirely pleasant way. Taste has a hint of sweetness to it, but has that pleasantly bitter taste you get from black coffee. Some hints of chocolate are there as well. Me gusta.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz can, poured into a snifter at approximately 50 degrees F.
Appearance: Pours a slightly clear dark brown, rather light for a coffee stout, and forms a massively thick light tan head that hangs around for a while. It leaves lacing on the glass while it slowly dissipates down to a cap. Eventually, the head vanishes completely, and the beer looks almost exactly like a cup of light roast coffee sans any form of cream.
Smell: Deep roast and rich coffee scents mingle above a sweetness that doesnít seem to be entirely malt-derived. Thereís a hint of something akin to chicory lurking in there as well - Iíd expect that from a New Orleans-based brewery before a Santa Fe brewery, but Iíll take it.
Taste: The aroma does not disappoint here, as the beer delivers exactly what was promised by the nose. The flavor profile opens with roasted malt and light coffee in abundance, mingled with a slight touch of bitter baking chocolate. Notes of chicory echo around the edges as the brew moves along the palate, and the coffee bitterness fades as a sugary sort of sweetness begins to manifest. It never quite overtakes the coffee bitter, but balances it out by the finish. I canít find any alcohol taste at all, so well done there, Santa Fe!
Mouthfeel: Aside from temperature, this beer actually feels like drinking black coffee.
Overall: Not a bad go at a coffee stout, with the emphasis on coffee rather than stout. I would drink this again.
