3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Caytinator (577) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 26, 20121/2 pint @ draught house. Appearance is black, translucent, small khaki head fades. Aroma is definitely coffee, that’s about it! The taste is dark rich coffee, burnt, medium-bitter, and just a tiny bit hoppy. Long aftertaste, lingers. Heavy body, but fizzy on the tongue at the end.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 EtTuCthulhu (399) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - MAY 20, 2013
The aroma is reminiscent of coffee and roasted malts, and the appearance combines an opaque black with a large and foamy tan head that fades quickly to a ring. The taste is mildly bitter and mildly sweet, and the palate combines a medium body, slick texture, a lightly bitter finish (which tastes more like black coffee than a beer), and a soft carbonation.

12 oz can. Pours an opaque dark brown/black color with a nice fluffy tan head. Aroma is fresh roasted coffee beans and roasted malt. Taste is sweet with lots of coffee and bittersweet chocolate.

12 oz can thanks to Crajun. This holds perhaps the biggest coffee aroma of any beer that I have had. Amazing roastyness fills the air. Weaker than hoped for mouthfeel, but the flavor is right alongside with the nose. 8% abv is no where to be found. Very drinkable. Javaheads unite!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Steverus0 (70) - Shreveport, Louisiana, USA - MAY 9, 2013
A little too effervescent for a stout, but perhaps this stout needs the extra carbonation to smoothen the deep, rich espresso character.
Nicely roasted malts and a deep brown sugar and coffee character round out a brilliantly balanced flavor.
Pleasant and drinkable, only the mouthfeel puts this brew off the top of its variety.

Draft sample at the Wigwam beer fest. Wow, this was nice and actually refreshing on a warm day. Like you took a well made sweet stout and mixed in a really high-grade coffee. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Very well made.

Can. Pours a very dark brown with a grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and remains. Aroma has a nice espresso note with a bit of roasted malts and a hint of underlying sweet chocolate. Flavor starts with coffee and roasted malts with more espresso in the finish and a bit of sweet chocolate.

Really tasty Java stout. Dark bitter coffee taste throughout. I drink it often and consider it Santa Fe’s best achievement.

A pretty decent coffee stout, with basically the usual trappings of the style, though lacking the pungent coffee nose I really love. Since I’ve been drinking Bells Java recently, this is kinda lacking.
