Dark ruby with a thick off-white head, settling to a substantial, soapy lace - nose is medium dry maltiness, cocoa, toasted grains, light toffee, a bit of breadiness - body is farily creamy - low carbonation - flavor is dry, medium bitter, with light acidity - some toasty grains, a light tartness, moderate earthy qualities - very light toffee sweetness before a finish of long lingering toasted bread and leafy hops - pretty solid, really.

Pour out of 12 oz can with little no white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, some slight yeast and grassy notes. Taste is bready biscuit, some caramel, yeast, some slightly acidic grain with a pleasant earth, finishing fairly sweet but dried out. Like this, pretty solid for the style.

An aggressive pour from the can produces a fat-two finger thick, pale amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated red-amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright, cranberry-red hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of concentrated berry like fruit, rich caramelized malt notes and a backing of lightly herbal hop character. There is a rich toasted maltiness to this beer that has a touch of brown bread character to it, but mostly reminds me of English biscuits, and crushed though clean, crystal malt. There is a backing hop character here that seems to accentuated the fruitiness as well as provides just a touch of herbal character.

Somewhat sweet up front, though it is a rich, malty, and caramelized sweetness rather than being a simplistic sugary sweet note. The beer finishes with a not insubstantial bitterness that has a touch of herbal character to it; in fact the herbal character is noticeable throughout each sip, though it clearly plays a supporting role to the dominant malt character. English biscuit notes, substantial caramelized bread notes, sweet whole grain crackers, and caramelized malt notes play the dominant role here. Having said that though this is not a completely malt dominated beer, there is a fair amount of hop character, including some grapefruit like citrusy hop notes. This beer is quite quaffable and easy drinking, it does have a chewiness to the body though, but it strikes the right balance as it does not seem heavy or cloying.

This is actually a really nice beer, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot to be honest, but this is quite pleasantly enjoyable. I really like the hop character here, it really helps to balance the chewy malt character, that might otherwise be too much. As the beer warms up the citrus character gets quite a bit more noticeable.

Can @ home. Clear, dark reddish brown appearance with a light brown head and good lacing. Toasty, a touch burnt, caramel malty, somewhat nutty, cherrry fruity aroma. Hazelnutty, a touch woody, quite earthy, a bit herbal, caramel malty, light toffee, a bit husky flavor. Not bad.

Can. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber/red. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, toasted grain, husks), lightly hoppy (apricot, grapefruit, resin), with light notes of metal, black tea, and diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, metallic. Meh. Grainy, metallic, buttery, and dull.

12 oz. can from Plaza Liquors - Pours a clear deep mahogany color with a medium size light tan head. Nice layered lacing. Aroma and flavor is caramel malt and esters. Medium body. Taste like your typical Irish ale. Worth a try
