COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What happens when you take our legendary Chicken Killer Barley Wine and let it take a long nap in a bourbon barrel? It turns into the palate-blowing liquid you hold in your hand. Our Kickiní Chicken Bourbon-Barrel Aged Barley Wine uses twice the ingredients of our other beers, but we extract only half the usual amount of liquid from them. Then itís barrel aged for 9 months. The result is a potent, smooth and flavorful concoction with bourbon-like undertones of vanilla and caramel. Know what itís like to be kicked in the mouth by a chicken? Youíre about to find out.

Papsoe (25085) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 25, 2013
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pours a hazy deep amber with an off-white head. Very sweet and oaky Bourbon aroma. Rich body, thick burned caramel, slightly woody with a massive booziness. A very typical US-style Barleywine. Nice alright but perhaps a little rough and unrefined. 250213

22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and light yeasty. Toffee malty and light phenolic. Bourbon smooth and alcohol warmth. Bitter and dry finish.

Beaver (1288) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 24, 2013
22 oz bottle. Pours ruby amber with a small creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet sugary fruity candy, peppery alcohol, flowers and a little oakey bourbon.

The flavor is extremely sweet sugary candy and cola with some slightly tart fruits and some bitter alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with some prickly carbonation.

Overall, itís a bit of a mess - way too sweet and sugary.

Pours a dark reddish color. Souring mouthfeel. Notes of coconut, sunscreen, dill, and citrus. Weird.

Bottle, shared with Danielle Morris via chat.
Pours a deep amber with a nose of oaky resin and bourbon chocolate. Flavor is oaky bourbon and young fruit with a finish of delicate chocolate. Average mouthfeel. Not bad, just a beer Iíve had before.

Brouwerij (929) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours an opaque orange-brown with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, alcohol, oak. Flavor is fruity up front fading quickly into bourbon, oak, and alcohol tones. Hints of vanilla oakiness. Bourbon is undoubtedly the dominant character of this beer. Reminds me of bourbon barrel Olde Skiddy. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. A very boozy bourbon barrel aged barleywine. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Toadvine (72) - Arizona, USA - FEB 10, 2013
22oz bomber from Jubilation on a recent trip to Albuquerque. Gold wax cap, no year otherwise indicated. Pours a deep, opaque brown with a small head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma is sweeter than the Chicken Killer (if that is possible), with lots of whiskey and vanilla. Taste is a bit sour and more complex than the Chicken Killer and has plenty of oak notes, bourbon, dark fruits, and caramel. This is a pretty good variation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Good bourbon aroma with mild hoppiness. First BBA Barley Wine for me and it works but not as well as a stout or quad. Cool dark tea color that gave the impression a lot was floating around in there. Not big pieces, mind you, just cloudy. The palate was full but oily. The taste had a sour tone that may have been intended or not. Nonetheless it appeared to age well. This new batch appears to have produced a lower ABV at 10%, which was still noticeable. Good and unique but not perfect.

2012 bottle. Dark ruby red, good fluffy off-white head. Aroma is bourbon, sweet carmel, vanilla, oak, sweet fruits. Taste is sweet right up front, malty, carmel, good hop bitterness, bourbon notes are light, but they are there mostly in the back end. Not too boozy at all. Overall pretty tasty, and a somewhat good deal for a bourbon barrel aged barley wine.
