3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark reddish color. Souring mouthfeel. Notes of coconut, sunscreen, dill, and citrus. Weird.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, shared with Danielle Morris via chat.
Pours a deep amber with a nose of oaky resin and bourbon chocolate. Flavor is oaky bourbon and young fruit with a finish of delicate chocolate. Average mouthfeel. Not bad, just a beer Iíve had before.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours an opaque orange-brown with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is bourbon, alcohol, oak. Flavor is fruity up front fading quickly into bourbon, oak, and alcohol tones. Hints of vanilla oakiness. Bourbon is undoubtedly the dominant character of this beer. Reminds me of bourbon barrel Olde Skiddy. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. A very boozy bourbon barrel aged barleywine. Exactly what I was hoping for.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bomber from Jubilation on a recent trip to Albuquerque. Gold wax cap, no year otherwise indicated. Pours a deep, opaque brown with a small head that rapidly dissipates. Aroma is sweeter than the Chicken Killer (if that is possible), with lots of whiskey and vanilla. Taste is a bit sour and more complex than the Chicken Killer and has plenty of oak notes, bourbon, dark fruits, and caramel. This is a pretty good variation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good bourbon aroma with mild hoppiness. First BBA Barley Wine for me and it works but not as well as a stout or quad. Cool dark tea color that gave the impression a lot was floating around in there. Not big pieces, mind you, just cloudy. The palate was full but oily. The taste had a sour tone that may have been intended or not. Nonetheless it appeared to age well. This new batch appears to have produced a lower ABV at 10%, which was still noticeable. Good and unique but not perfect.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 bottle. Dark ruby red, good fluffy off-white head. Aroma is bourbon, sweet carmel, vanilla, oak, sweet fruits. Taste is sweet right up front, malty, carmel, good hop bitterness, bourbon notes are light, but they are there mostly in the back end. Not too boozy at all. Overall pretty tasty, and a somewhat good deal for a bourbon barrel aged barley wine.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
An intriguing brew, the bourbon flavor comes through strong, but there are also notes of fruit and caramel. The initial palate sensation is acidic, wine-like.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 21, 2013 Pours medium brown with beige head. Smells sour with a soapy grainy sweetness with the vanilla and sweetness of the barrel peaking through. The taste is very rich with lots of grains and a prevailing tart/sour with barrel notes. The sour brings a vinegar light acidic cherry melon fruit flavor with the roasted barley giving it a really nice bed to play in. The bourbon barrel is a close afterthought, showing nicely in the finish. The carbonation is smooth and it all sets up like sour beer, but has a great barrel aged barleywine flavor. It could rank under the sour wild in my book not a barleywine outright. It finishes mostly clean with lingering bittering grains in the back of my tongue and a sweet sugary barrel feel in the front. The bourbon warms as it goes down and coats everything leaving the desirable light boozy warming sensation. Got one to age because this could go anywhere, good or bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 ml. Capped and waxed bottle. 10% ABV per the label. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, well retained, light beige head, with some lacing, over a hazy, reddish amber (SRM 17) body....nose is bourbon, toffee/caramel, plum, raisin......taste is toffee/caramel, sweet bourbon, hints of cocoa or chocolate, vanilla, slight sherry tones, finishing with a mild hop bitterness....mouth feel thick, slightly chewy, slightly astringent, a bit sticky, alcohol burn present, carbonation low. This is a thick, rich, nourishing, reasonably heavy beer. The bourbon barrels were used in a way that adds complexity in both aromas and flavors without dominating too much. This is NOT a traditional Barley Wine, because of the barrels, but is quite interesting. The bottle label, description on Ratebeer, and on the breweries website are similar, but different.
