3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted from bottle at DLD in April. Lightish brown color, but that color is solid. A thin layer of foam. Smell is a little sweet, not far off from a Bigfoot. Oh, my! A lot of stuff going on in the tongue, Makes for an excellent barleywine. Just a little bit of hop layer at the start. Then pretty sweet malts, but with plenty of malt character. Noticeably alcoholic. But with a light soda texture. A little oak in the finish.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Gold wax dipped bomber. The pour yields a clear, deep burgundy colored body with a glint of darker chestnut. A small, smooth head of dark khaki foam slowly settles to a thin but lasting blanket. Splotchy branches and trailing spots of lace mark the glass. The aroma is instantly big and boozy, loaded with hot, woody bourbon, showing unwelcomed hints of glue or solvent (though not prominent). Eventually, the foreign scent blows off, revealing further layers of burnt brown sugars, caramel, and a touch of raisin. Flavors show more of the same searing bourbony heat and sweet burnt sugars. Hints of buttery toffee creep in, as do some earthy, woody tones. The palate is predictably big, sugary, and hot, but what is unexpected is the intensity of the carbonation on the back end, which tends to dry out and sting the tongue. Overall, this brew is a major disappointment. Note to brewers....if youíre starting out with a mediocre base beer, barrel-aging is not likely to save it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
bottle at dakís 1/2/11.
hazy. maple-y honey color with no real lasting head.
it smells like coppertone!... lots of green spicy wood, bourbon, umami, cumin, brown sugar, green peppers and vanilla-y coco-nuttiness.
the flavor is quite savory and picks up some white chocolate business along with all the stuff from the aroma. there is a mald bitterness on the finish which helps clean up after the medium body. nice. 8.5/3/8/4/17

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
[Bottle] shared by bdr. Thanks! Pours hazy caramel with a frothy soapy beige head. Aroma is alcohol, light barrel character, light cheesy nuttiness, some caramel. Flavor is cheesy, barrel character, tons of alcohol, plenty of hop bitterness. Not an improvement over the base beer.

Massive bourbon flavor. And a really strong cocoanut flavor. This was really overpowering. Itís just about all I taste or smell.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle brought straight from the source by stevemastny- thanks, Steve! Pours a murky, muddy raisin-brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, plums, raisins, brown sugar, oak, and caramel. Flavor of bourbon, oak, raisins, figs, plums, caramel, brown sugar, earth, and molasses. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a sweet, sticky, boozy mouthfeel. Really nice bourbon barrel barleywine that my fiancee and I enjoyed a lot. Thanks again, Mastnys!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle - thanks to bu11zeye.
Hazy brown pour with some tan head. Aromas of brown sugar, bourbon, sweet cherry, and caramel. Tastes like dark fruit, oak, bourbon, and vanilla. Very good - the barrel aging adds a nice demension to the original.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. I really enjoy the regular version of this beer, so I am expecting good things from Kickin Chicken.
The beer pours an amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of caramel malt and alcohol, but I donít get as much barrel aging notes as I expected.
The flavor is a little different and a little bit better. I get a lot caramel and toffee malt, as well as some pine from the hops and some alcohol. I also get some maple and bourbon notes, but they are still fainter than expected.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Pours a dark golden syrup, good foam, light sticky lacing .. . great dose of bourbon with a fantastic caramel oakiness .. . this is quality, a barreled chicken .. . Why donít people smile more? A recent survey shows that 80% of Americans never ever smile. These people need to go to jail.
