COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What happens when you take our legendary Chicken Killer Barley Wine and let it take a long nap in a bourbon barrel? It turns into the palate-blowing liquid you hold in your hand. Our Kickiní Chicken Bourbon-Barrel Aged Barley Wine uses twice the ingredients of our other beers, but we extract only half the usual amount of liquid from them. Then itís barrel aged for 9 months. The result is a potent, smooth and flavorful concoction with bourbon-like undertones of vanilla and caramel. Know what itís like to be kicked in the mouth by a chicken? Youíre about to find out.

It has nice brown amber color and a very small light brown head. I smell wood, vanilla, bourbon and sweet malt. I taste all of the same too, I can taste the alcohol in it. It is a barley wine so donít trip. I love the bourbon taste:)!

Bottle. A- Dark fruits, caramel, rosy, whiskey, woody. A- Mahogany color, slightly hazy liquid, minimal head. T- Dark fruits, malty, caramel, bourbon, rosy, slightly sweet. P- Full body, average texture, soft carbonation, smooth finish. O- One of the sweetest and smoothest barley wines I have had to date. There is an aroma and taste that I canít wait put together, but itís a pleasant one at that. Canít really tell this has been aged that much, but itís subtly there.

Kickin Chickenís defining characteristic is its quirkiness. The name, bottle art, and flavors all give you something out of the ordinary. In the case of the ale itself, the quirks work both for and against it. For starters, Kickin Chicken doesnít quite have the rich, dark color you usually see out of a barley wine but that isnít to say that the liquid is unattractive. The smell is very complex but itís also unusual. The sweet aromas of booze, fruit, and subtle floral qualities are definitely intriguing but also a bit strange. Iím most willing to embrace this barley wineís oddness when it comes to the flavor. I love the strong notes of caramel and vanilla. Still, thereís a weird malty sweetness at the front of the tongue thatís hard to identify and seems misplaced. All said, Kickin Chicken is an idiosyncratic ale. Fortunately, that mostly works in its favor.

Pours a hazy deep orange color. Hints of bourbon over fruit aroma. Sweat on the front of the tongue with the bourbon coming alive in the back of the mouth along with a spicey note. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bomber. 35th birthday present from Elise. Thick, unfiltered viscous brown amber. Oily thin head. Rich and boozy, thick, sweet bourbon caramel tones. Tastes like they added bourbon to a beer barrel. Intense. Firmly planted in the Barley Wine style, which I fully appreciate, but also fully showing off rich barrel tones.

Great beer! Definitely a nice sour taste. Kinda numbs the palate a bit. Overall warming finish. Im going to age my other one for a few years. I like the sourness and worth the 12 bucks! Bourban comes out my nostrils after each sip...love it!

Dirty brown to amber body, offwhite head. Aroma has sour caramel, some resiny hops, cookies, chocolate, sorbus, bourbon, vainilla. Very round palate, balanced. Smooth and oily. Huge beer with huge sourness. Cookie dough and alcohol. Just great.

22 oz bottle. (Macadoodles) Branson, MO. HHOK XV.
Murky brown colour with a small greyish white head. Sourness, berries and strong brett in a delicious aroma. Brett, whiskey sweetness, red berries, tartness and sourness in the flavour. Nice. Tasty.

About 6 months old. Deep slightly cloudy reddish brown. Nose of some bourbon, wet wood, oxidation, toffee. Taste follows, with wet oak, slightly sweet toffee and bourbon and vanilla, but finishes tart. Not bad, but suspect infection and didnít want a glass of this. Few sips was enough. Kind of a mess. Have another I guess Iíll age and see.

A steady pour into my teku glass produces a two-finger thick, tan colored head. The beer is a dark amber color that shows a hazed, amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of coconut, a touch of Bourbon alcohol notes, and perhaps even a touch tart, which accentuates a fruit character here; melon, some plum notes, and green raisins. The oak character also contributes notes of toasted wood, a touch of nutty character, which is also perhaps brought out by a touch of sherry like character. As the beer warms up more of the malt character comes out with notes of English Biscuit like malt, brown-sugar coated brown bread crust, and perhaps even some touches of molasses.

The beer has a light carbonation, which offsets a chewy body that really isnít all that heavy for a beer of this strength. The beer has lots of barrel character, touches of coconut, definite vanillin notes, spicy wood notes, some astringent barrel character, spicy bourbon notes, melon like Bourbon fruit, and spicy, warming alcohol. The beer does have a tartness to it, that actually adds quite a bit to this beer, it really accentuates a nice fruitiness , and definitely comes along with a nice funky edge to this beer (fermenting this next to all the wild beers has had an effect); tart floral plums, tart raisins, a touch of melon notes and a bright fig note. The malt has a caramelized edge to it, plus lots of sweet, chewy, brown bread flavors to it.

This is actually quite nice, the funkiness and light tartness definitely brings a complexity and character to this beer. Of course I can be a bit burnt out at times of normal Bourbon Barrel Aged Barley. This can be a bit hot at times, but it is still pretty tasty in the end.
