Anything but a typical American Pale, Santa Fe Pale Ale is as full bodied as its most robust English counterparts, while asserting its American origin with a healthy nose resplendent with Cascade and Willamette hops. It finishes with a well-balanced combination of the subtle, almost Pilsner-like maltiness accentuated by the German yeast used to brew this Santa Fe classic, and a hop bite sufficient to leave a lingering smile on the face of any fan of American Pale Ales.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a thin beige that lasts. Taste is of grass, malt, hops and some citrus. Similar aroma. Has a good body with a slight dry and bitter finish. Easy to drink and rather enjoyable.

Decent Sierra Nevada imitation. Low hop slightly malty for me more of a British pale style

"fairly typical and average english style pale ale. admitedly not my favorite style, but there have been standouts. This isn’t one. Decent floral hops and malt balance, but a little cardboard going on. Meh."

Las Vegas. NV - Total Wine - Summerlin - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange pour, slightly hazy with an off-white frothy head, decent lacing. Aroma has a ripening vegetable quality to it with a hint of onion powder - odd - but not off-putting. Flavor has some peach-like frutiness, just a hint of citrus bitterness and some ripening vegetables in the back end. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Enjoyed this after a long day of hiking at Canyonlands National Park overlooking the canyon at Grand View Point Overlook,

On tap. Pours a clear gold with an amber hue and a white head that starts at the edges and dissipates completely. Aroma has a good amount of earthy citrus with light grain and grass backing. Flavor is more grassy with some sweet grains and a strong biscuit backbone.

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2014 Six pack from Dick’s. Pours amber color with a small, fizzy head. Aroma is pretty weak, has metallic undertones with a little grassiness and soured grains. The palate is light and the flavor is just as the nose let on. There are notes of pennies, grass, earth, caramel, and a kind of lactic finish. I have had other offerings from Santa Fe I prefer.

Here’s another bottle from that six pack. I’m really starting to have a disdain for this beer. The aroma has redeeming qualities of grassy hops and grapefruit, but a prominent metallic quality along with soured grains. The flavor is strongly metallic again with a mineraly finish. The finish is almost tart and seemingly unclean. It doesn’t have that cleanliness or refreshing quality I look for from the style at all.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Bottle. A- Malty, hoppy. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Balanced, slightly bitter, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- I was surprised with how mild this was. Not that bitter at all and almost reminded me more of a lager of Pilsner. Overall, if was a pretty average beer.
