Anything but a typical American Pale, Santa Fe Pale Ale is as full bodied as its most robust English counterparts, while asserting its American origin with a healthy nose resplendent with Cascade and Willamette hops. It finishes with a well-balanced combination of the subtle, almost Pilsner-like maltiness accentuated by the German yeast used to brew this Santa Fe classic, and a hop bite sufficient to leave a lingering smile on the face of any fan of American Pale Ales.

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2014 Six pack from Dick’s. Pours amber color with a small, fizzy head. Aroma is pretty weak, has metallic undertones with a little grassiness and soured grains. The palate is light and the flavor is just as the nose let on. There are notes of pennies, grass, earth, caramel, and a kind of lactic finish. I have had other offerings from Santa Fe I prefer.

Here’s another bottle from that six pack. I’m really starting to have a disdain for this beer. The aroma has redeeming qualities of grassy hops and grapefruit, but a prominent metallic quality along with soured grains. The flavor is strongly metallic again with a mineraly finish. The finish is almost tart and seemingly unclean. It doesn’t have that cleanliness or refreshing quality I look for from the style at all.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Bottle. A- Malty, hoppy. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Balanced, slightly bitter, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, crisp finish. O- I was surprised with how mild this was. Not that bitter at all and almost reminded me more of a lager of Pilsner. Overall, if was a pretty average beer.

Pour is a clear copper/amber with two fingers of billowy white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is malt and pine. Flavor is sweet malt with medium hoppiness. Medium bodied. Finishes medium sweet. Very nice beer.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma is sweet malt and that is not even that strong. Flavor is more caramel malt then anything else with hops no where in the picture. This was bland, utterly flavorless and down right poor.

12oz bottle. Light amber color, white color, and light lacing. Light aroma. Taste is biscuity, with a little citrus/hop kick, not very strong. Medium body and carbonation. Mediocre pale ale.

Draft at Quarter’s BBQ in ABQ. Clear dark gold color. Floral and citrus notes. Taste lacks the hop punch you are expecting. Not enough balance or depth to the flavor. Not the best pale ale out there.

Bottled somewhere in Santa Fe. Dark golden colored, nice head. Pleasant hoppy nose, some malts, some yeast perhaps. Very pleasant hoppy flavor, malts to back it up, very easy to drink. Really my kind of pale ale, i just loved it.

Not a good pale ale at all. Didn’t really get anything but a watery substance with carbonation.

Very nice pale ale. Pours a light amber with a tan head and substantial lacing. Nose is pine and citrus. Taste recapitulates the nose and adds more grapefruit and malt. Mouthfeel has a lingering thickness and the finish is bitter and long-lasting. If I were blindfolded, I would have thought this an IPA. Nicely done.

12 oz bottle from Tipsy’s. Gold and clear with a white head. Aroma and flavor of toasted malts, toffee, caramel, citrus fruit and light pine. Light to medium body with a crisp feel and a smooth finish.
