COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To commemorate our 25th anniversary, Santa Fe Brewing has created Saison 88, a Belgian-style, farmhouse ale. Brewed with German pilsner malt and American wheat, it pours a pale, unfiltered straw color with a snowy white head. Saison 88 is generously hopped with traditional Czech noble hops and a splash of citrusy American originals, Simcoe and Cascade. With our own Galisteo farmhouse origins in mind, we fermented it with a fruity Belgian yeast balancing black pepper notes and a citrus finish. Saison 88 is a bright, crisp, easy-drinking ale, true to our rustic origin and perfect to quench the thirst of a hot day.

This looks excellent, cloudy yellow with a huge head. This is light and fruity and very easy to drink. Very similar to a Leffe blonde. I like this a lot.

Can. Pours a slightly hazy color with a head that fades quickly. Aroma of citrus, malt sweetness, yeast and bit of spice. Taste of citrus, malt sweetness and fruit. Mild bitterness and a fairly clean finish. Fairly light body, crisp and has a nice feel. Enjoyable beer that goes down easy.

Canned. Poured mostly clear, bright golden with a short-lived white head. The aroma picked up sweeter honey and pale malts topped by citrus, cloves, and other earthy spice. The flavor found pale malts and just a splash of honey at the core, with dry, tacky, muddled spices, floral hops, and citrus around.. the fairly long finish didn’t do much for me. Medium-bodied and scratchy through the palate.. moderate carbonation.. just an OK feel and flow. Meh.

Can into fluted glass. Pours slightly hazy gold with a thin white head. Aroma of cereal and green apple. Taste is cereal, apple, sugar, white bread. Light citrus, almost minty finish. Not bad, but not what I expected from a saison. More like a hoppy pils. Could see myself drinking a few more of these over the warmer months.

12 oz. can. Pours a thick, poorly retained white head, with extensive lacing, over a hazy yellow (SRM 3) body......nose has hints of spice, cereal, light herbal tones......taste is light cereal, hints of spice, mild citrus tones, light pepper, finishing with a mild bitterness.....mouth feel, light almost watery body, minimal acid, no astringency, tingle on the tongue. This is somewhere in the realm of Belgian Pale Ale, Saison. The recipe could do with a bit more from the yeast, and less from the American hops. It is light and refreshing, just not a particularly good Saison. BJCP 7/2/12/4/6
