To commemorate our 25th anniversary, Santa Fe Brewing has created Saison 88, a Belgian-style, farmhouse ale. Brewed with German pilsner malt and American wheat, it pours a pale, unfiltered straw color with a snowy white head. Saison 88 is generously hopped with traditional Czech noble hops and a splash of citrusy American originals, Simcoe and Cascade. With our own Galisteo farmhouse origins in mind, we fermented it with a fruity Belgian yeast balancing black pepper notes and a citrus finish. Saison 88 is a bright, crisp, easy-drinking ale, true to our rustic origin and perfect to quench the thirst of a hot day.

Not great and pretty forgettable. It has some lemony and spicy aspects, but the finish is sort of off. I expected a crispness but the finish is slightly bitter and astringent. There’s better stuff out there.

Appearance: pretty clear actually, nice gold color, pours with a large off white head that settles pretty quick Aroma: bread, lemon, very faint Taste: lemon, some bitterness on the finish, has a very slight tang to it, Palate: lively carbonation, slight bitter aftertaste, leaves mouth dry Overall: nothing really special about this beer in my opinion, not bad just nothing jumps out at me ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled from a can at the Bluebonnet Brew-off. Poured a straw yellow with a white top and decent lacing. Taste of clove, slight hop spice, and tropical fruits. High carbonation, thin body.

Can. Pours to a glowing vibrant golden body with a foamy white head that mostly dissipates. The aroma is sweet malts with a blondie and shortbread type of cookie. Subtle dried corn husk. The flavor is shortbread and blondies with a dry hop and tangy silage. The palate is sweet but definitely not sticky. Like a blonde bock. I thought this was more springtime bock like than a saison, but it is definitely tasty.

Gushing even from a can. Not nice! The beer is dark golden in the glass, floral nose. The beginning is smooth, a bit sharp and fruity due to the saison-yeast. The mainpart is peppery, fresh, refreshing and dry. In the aftertaste smooth, saison-peppery and yeasty.
Nice try on a saison, but not sharp enough in comparison to an original Belgium beer. --> 10/12/11/10

Pour is a hazy yellow with a average white head. Aroma is yeasty esters and a bit of citrus tartness. Flavor is more of the yeast esters with a bit of lemon grass and dull grain. It’s decent. You can tell they used a good yeast strain but it’s a bit thin around the edges, although the lacing really sticks to the side of the glass. A starter saison maybe?

Pours yellow / copper with a white head. The aroma has toasty malt, light saison earthiness, minor tartness, underripe fruits and some mushiness. It has a fairly light crisp body with lightly biting carbonation. The flavor starts with graininess, spicy / earthy saison notes, dry spiciness and light crackers. The finish is spicy and clean. Pretty decent and nice job for a line priced six pack saison.
